Despite having an interest in the subject of psychology/counselling, I found the first half of this book rather slow. The author lectures the reader on facets of pschoanalysis on a number of occasions, but always on a manner which illuminates, and as a way of taking the story forward although the reader may not realise it at the time.
I found that I worked my way through several suspects before the author revealed who Gray had decided on. All he had to do now was to find proof, but that comes from the reliving of the psychoanalysis.
Given all of the above, it is worth bearing in mind that this book was first published in 1956 and is certainly reflective of its time. It is a hard book to categorize; whilst not a thrilling read, it is certainly from a different viewpoint and brings an alternative perspective to the genre.

As noted it does take some time to understand and put together all the pieces of information. But the book is well worth the head scratching and leads to a worthwhile conclusion.
