The Muppets decide to perform their college show in New York, but it's not as easy as they had hoped. They each have to raise $300 in order to keep a producer interested, and to complicate matters Kermit keeps developing amnesia.

It's all about Kermit wanting to put on a show (which is almost every damn Muppet movie in existence) on Broadway and his efforts to be taken seriously. The rest of the gang lose faith extremely quickly and abandon him (some friends!) leaving Kermit to bluff his way into an industry that wants nothing to do with him. Not taking no for an answer, he persists. If this is a somewhat autobiographical tale of Jim Henson and Frank Oz's humble beginnings it does lend a credible edge to the material. I think that Henson/Oz do their best work when being daring and edgy (The Dark Crystal , Little Shop of Horrors, and this Muppet adventure, being shot in and around the real Manhattan instead of studio sets, stops just a little shy of that. Kermit keeps complaining that the script for his big show is lacking "something" that he can't quite figure out.Read more ›
Coming to Manhattan to put their musical on the stage at Broadway the gang come up against some unexpected hitches. Cue split up and dispersal of the Muppet team around the country. But don't panic folks they're soon back singing and dancing together... ...there's only one hitch - where's Kermit?
This is a fantastic family movie and one both big and little kids will love. It has everything that makes the Muppets great.
Fab fun for all!
take manhatten is a funny story with twists in the story and kermit becoming phil-up-phil after been hit by a taxi. This also introduces the 3 frogs bill, gill and jill who are very funny indeed. Its not as good as the great muppet caper but its up there.I think this is the jim henson starring muppet movir so it basiclly kermits last movie as well and in my view its a very good movie for all ages

A frankly somewhat disappointing second entry in the Muppets' cinematic canon. Jim Henson & Co's follow-up to 1979's 'The Muppet Movie', it does not have it's predecessor's wit, sharpness or heart. The celebrity cameos aren't as good either, and the high water mark would be Joan Rivers, were it not for the bemusing nature of her inexplicable scene.
In some ways, it is not fair to compare MTM to the better instalments such as 'The Muppets Christmas Carol' and the second-but-most-recent 'The Muppets'. This film harks back more to the television series, with the plot taking a back seat through a large portion of the running time to a sequence of (not very good) musical performances and comedy sketches. Unfortunately, that doesn't really work for cinema-length pacing. By the time the plot came around again, the friends I watched it with had lost interest, and the fairly satisfying conclusion could not redeem it for them.
Fortunately, Kermit and his cohort can afford to spend a bit of good will on a miss. Good will is the one thing the Muppets have always generated in plentiful supply...
