The Jim Knighthorse series is a great read. As with all JR Rains novels, his books aren't long but they are well written and you like the lead characters. I love a good thriller and anything vampire so if you like Stephanie Myres, Harlan Coben, Patterson or similar then I reckon you'll like this book and the authors other books. On its own as a novel it may not be mega stand out but because of the great lead and the fact you know the next book will continue the story then it keeps you reading and enjoying it.
I love a big thick novel like the last few Harry Potter ones but I also like a shorter well written one aswell.
I recommend this author and book if you fancy a cheap good read which will leave you wanting more of Jim, who when you are in trouble you would want by your side!! :-)

Having read and enjoyed Dark Horse, I moved eagerly on to the second Jim Knighthorse book, and certainly wasn't dissappointed. This is very much in the Lee Child mould with Knighthorse at times seemingly modelled on Reacher. A cleverly constructed story if perhaps a little incredible at times. But..hey..this is fiction so who's worried.
It's a pity that the vagrant/God character from Dark Horse doesn't figure in this book at all, but all in all this is another great offering from an author who was new to me.
I'm not a reader of 'vampire' stories, and this author has written a series of them. But, having enjoyed his thrillers, I might even give a vampire tale a go!

Again a cracking read. The subtle repertoire of comments and the main characters strong sense of self make this a great read. I was looking forward to his debates with the vagrant and wonder why the writer didn't include him in this one. It could hardly be because of less than positive feedback, as the quirky character was one of the highlights of the first book. The only thing I thought was overdone were the conversations with Cindy about his drinking. Her need to be reassured about his choices is fairly annoying, but even that is a sign that the story has made some impact upon me as a reader. The really clever witty dialogue in the beginning about pink doughnuts was brilliant. I look forward to the next book and hope to see the detectives homeless friend in the near future.

Jim Knighthorse is a big man with a big personality to match. He's young he's handsome and he's got talent, he knows it and he wants everyone else to know it too. You might think that a man with this level of self love and importance would be hard to like but you would be wrong. His sense of drive and purpose shines through and you can't help but be drawn to him . like him. even love him.
He's a big man with a big heart and he has a killer to catch or is that several killers. He's given the task of investigating the suspicious death of a young but very capable historian as he himself investigates the identity of a mummy who is currently resident at a local curiosity shoppe. Along the way he endures several near death experiences . He's also becoming more absorbed by the wrongful and horrific death of his mother and is determined to avenge her untimely death, will new evidence provided by his father lead him to her killer? knighthorse has only ever loved two women in his life his mother and Cindy so when Cindy becomes the victim of a hate campaign he is overwhelmed with a sense of fear love and anger. He's a big man like I said and he manages to divide his time equally between all his investigations, hell at one point they all seem to be interlinked and he just works through his checklist of ideas and theories. Like I said he's that good. His friend in the PD also seeks his help when his son falls victim to a gang of thugs and they devise a plan to help Jesus resolve the problem. The writer has made me love this character he has made him believable , slightly flawed but incredibly honourable.

Arragonce, humour, pathos and excellent readability. The conceited detective is rather fun. I found some of the attitudes skewed, generally the "hero" is either good, or bad. Sometimes they're just human with leanings both ways. The underlying morals were off, giving an odd 'taste' to the book.

Excellent auther, with a very varied repertoire. Not all the books are to my taste, but that gives an indication of the breadth of the writing across genres.

Having read the first in this series 'Dark Horse', I had every intention of purchasing series #2 but thought I would read a few reviews first anyway.
My first and only concern was the absence of GOD (or his hobo buddy). I contacted one of the reviewers regarding GOD's absence, 'Did it work without Him'? Thankfully the series continues in a positive way though like the reviewer we both admitted we 'missed' GOD. Don't get the wrong idea, it's not about religion, reading series #1 will clarify this.
As is his way, Jim does the right thing albeit in a somewhat unorthodox fashion on occassions.
His one liners are so corny they are actually humorous.
I don't feel the need to go into the storyline as I have read numerous admirable reviews which cover this.
I'm sure Jim will live on for the time being despite defying death on a regular basis though his drinking does concern me, just how much liver has he got left?

I would highly recommend reading this and if you haven't already done so try Dark Horse, I doubt you will be disappointed with either and I'm looking forward to reading series #3 Hail Mary.
Happy reading and if you're in trouble just pray that J. Knighthorse is around the corner.
