Appallingly written. It was interesting only because of the main subject content but really the Ben MacIntyre book on this subject is the best one and Mrs Chapman seems to have a down on him for some reason. Not a good book and not one I could recommend

Page 35. "When we got there who should be there but the young Duke of Kent, who was then 18. He was a friend of my friends add we were there there to celebrate his 18th birthday..........." Er, this was 1940, George, Duke of Kent was born in 1902 and was 38 in 1940.

Page 104. "One day we got an invitation to go to the palace up in the mountains near Tangier, owned by the Woolworth heir Barbara Hutton". Er, Barbara's home in Tangier was the Sidi Hosni Palace, deep in the heart of the Tangier's Kasbah Gin or dementia on Mrs Chapman's behalf perhaps, , no excuse, Ronald L.Bonewitz

Because a couple of books have recently been written about the double-agent, Eddie Chapman, this book, taken from the perceptive of Chapman's wife, should have been an interesting one. Unfortunately, it falls at the first fence. The book possesses a number of inaccuracies and it appears to me that the co-author, Dr. Bonewitz has simply transcribed his long, recorded sessions with Mrs. Chapman and put them down as fact, without researching her statements as to their accuracy. Anyone, of any age, can put forward recollections of years gone by and be utterly convinced that they are an accurate account of what happened; nevertheless, when these remembrances are submitted for publication - and especially when there is a professional co-author, as in this case - it is necessary that their veracity should be checked out as far as possible. When the person in question has reached Mrs. Chapman's advanced years, it is utterly essential that this should be done.

The book is not helped by the continual name-dropping nor for the way in which Mrs. Chapman tends to blame everyone else for anything which went wrong in her life with Eddie Chapman.

No, I believe that the best account is contained in Ben Macintyre's book, followed by Nicholas Booth's book, then - trailing a very long way behind - Chapman's account: `The Real Eddie Chapman Story', together with this one.

Only got it as I met Mrs Zigzags sister and felt it was worth a read. Half way through but into a better book at present, will pick it up again on a rainy day in the winter.
