Book Description

This new and completely updated edition of Mrs Beeton's classic work provides clear, reliable information and is as relevant today as when it first appeared.

About the Author

Isabella Mary Beeton was born in London is 1836, where she grew up in a household of twenty-one children. It took Isabella four years to compile her masterwork, publishing Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management in 1861. It contains an enormous amount of information to help people live, in Isabella Beeton's own words, 'economically, tastefully and well'. Her style, imparting information as clearly and simply as possible, was hugely influential. The book sold 60,000 copies in its first year, but Isabella Beeton died four years later, in 1865, aged just twenty-eight. The enduring popularity of Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management is testament to the quality of her advice.

Rose Gray and Ruth Roger's did it in the '90s with their River Cafe Cook Book and Arabella Boxter did it in the '70s with her First Slice Your Cook Book. Mrs Beeton did it over 100 years ago with this book and it's still wonderful. Mrs Beeton's Cookery and Household Management is part of our rich culinary heritage. It's still fabulous and is just as relevant today as it was a century ago.

My old Mrs Beeton book finally died and fell apart after 40 years. It is a wonderful book and covers pretty well anything you might want to cook.or bake despite being around for so many years - none of the modern cookery books I have owned over the years have come close to it and when the cover finally fell off my old one I just had to replace it, the most useful cookery book I have ever owned and I have owned quite a few.

I come from Spain and I was not familiarized with Mrs. Beeton and her tradition at all. I just came across the book the other day in the house of a friend and I want it... It's simple, it's clear and it's informative. The ammount of recipes is fantastic and it describes how to make even the bizarrest thing. Anyway, if you are not really used to cook, I would try something simpler.
