I really enjoyed this short story from Gregor Xane, which tells the story of Ben Coburn, who was previously a bit-part actor in B-rated movies, usually playing the part of the ‘heavy’ due to his appearance. Not much happens in his life anymore though and that pisses him off, but in this short story, something does happen. To find out what that something is though, you’ll have to read it.
This was very well written and had a mounting sense of tension throughout. It was well structured too and flowed very well.
Even though this was a horror story there were several laugh-out-loud moments, like when Ben can’t think of a prayer, says Amen in place of it and tells us how stupid he feels! That kind-of instance helped me connect with Ben too, so it was very welcome.
I didn’t see the twist at the end coming and it left me with a wetted appetitive when I think about reading more of Gregor’s work.
Go and read it!

For such a short story the world building and atmosphere is detailed and the characters themselves have a strong presence. It's quirky, fantasy, light hearted but also poignant. A strong imagination at work. I enjoyed it, it was different.
Highly enjoyable and, if under duress, I would even admit I laughed out loud a time or two. For less than a buck, I'll make the decision for you. Buy it. (And buckle up).
The grocery store section is a must read....You'll never guess what's in the jars.
