Product Description

Review

'This is a marvellous magical mystery tour we are offered, written in an allusive and quicksilver prose - no bad language here.' The Times Higher Education Supplement

Book Description

Captain Bligh and the mutiny on the Bounty have become proverbial in their capacity to evoke the extravagant and violent abuse of power. But William Bligh was one of the least violent disciplinarians in the British navy. It is this paradox which inspired Greg Dening to ask why the mutiny took place. Part of the key lies in the curious puzzle of Mr Bligh's bad language.

Very in depth book and can take some understanding especially in later chapters. Having studied the Bounty history the book provides a objective view of the social and mind set of those involved at this time in history. Well researched however and needs to be read at least twice to appreciate the contents.

I bought this while researching William Bligh. There are some interesting arguments therein, but a C for 'O' Level English person will need a dictionary by them. There are some big words in it.
