This double CD is, as the title suggests, a selection of Mozarts slow movements. All of the famous pieces are in there (Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Elvira Madigan etc), as well as some not-so-famous but nevertheless equally enjoyable pieces. The music is good for unwinding and relaxing, and for falling asleep to, or for just having in the background.
My only niggle, which stops me giving it a five star rating, is that some of the longer pieces have been cut down in order to be accommodated in this compilation. Okay, so they wanted to give more variety to the listener, but I personally would have preferred to hear the full versions.
Nevertheless, it's a good introduction to the slower works of Mozart, and will whet the appetite to discover more of his music. Well worth a listen.

Though this is not a CD set to "seriously listen to Mozart", it is perfect to put on while doing anything from housework to sitting around watching the grass grow. With one glorious melody after another, one is flooded with its beauty; there are few melodies that can top track # 2, the Andante from Piano Concerto 21, the "Elvira Madigan" theme, except for many of the other twentyone excerpts that for the most part, are well performed, with some that are exceptional.
Vladimir Ashkenzy is the pianist in four pieces, and is wonderful in all of them, as is clarinetist Gervase de Peyer in the K622 concerto and the excepts from Horn Concertos # 2 and # 3, with Barry Tuckwell as soloist.
The Concerto for Flute and Harp K299 might sound a little thin to some, but this is perhaps because of the antique instrumentation. The Academy of Ancient Music, under the baton of Christopher Hogwood, have been pioneers in recording with period instruments.
I'm particularly fond of Mozart's solo piano pieces, and three selections are included, played by award-winning Hungarian pianist/conductor Andras Schiff.
The packaging for these 2 discs is minimal, but the music is a terrific bargain. You get miles of Mozart (playing time for Disc One is 74'25, Disc Two 71'30), with many great artists performing these soft and exquisite pieces; it makes me think of a box of assorted musical truffles, a delicacy for the ears, and a balm for the soul in the noisy world most of us live in.

Mozart's Adagio collection Is the Best of and is so wonderful to listen too. Of course this does not cover the body of his work but does cover most of his slow movements. Just sublime and beautiful to listen to. But this DVD I already had it but I bought this amongst others to introduce a friend to Classical music. You will not be sorry to buy this. All your favourite adagios on one double disc. Great quality for the money.

Beyond Perfect
This was my first Mozart cd. Even without knowing all the pieces in it, after the first listening i knew i've had something very special in my collection. All the tracks are great great great, relaxing, calm, beautifully played, and they all are without no exception truly masterworks from Mozart genius.

I began to buy piece by piece after this and today i have almost all Mozart works in individual cd's, but from time to time i like to return to this cd not because it was my first , but because it's a perfect collection of the most beautiful slow tempo's from Mozart.

This cd is perfect for reading, sleeping, make love, cooking, dinner with real good friends, drive, walking, watching the sun set or sun rise, to contemplate nature or simply and all the other good things life has to offer us.

Everybody should have this cd in her collection. Simply buy it.....

Adagio is the slow movement in a piece of music. This is a 2 Cd collection of Adagios from some of Mozart's masterworks, but I am yet to come across anything that Mozart wrote that is not great. This 2 cd collection is great for relaxing, contemplating or healing. I particularly like the diversity of the selected works, - piano, cello, violin, horn, clarinet, symphonies etc. If you are new to classical music or to Mozart's work; or just looking for a good music that will help you chill, then you cannot go wrong with this collection of some of the most beautiful and peaceful music ever written.
