Practical and interesting
30 August 2013
As someone who's actively thinking of making the move to Portugal and who's already signed up to the author's blog, I thought I'd buy this. The book really capture's the mixed feelings about moving to another country, the excitement of the move and the missing of friends and favourite foods ect. It deals with many of the practicalities of ex-pat life in Portugal and is warts and all in that it not only describes some of the great aspects of life there, the beaches, the weather, the gentler pace of life as well as the soul destroying bureaucracy.
It gives a useful list of websites and contact details (which I've yet to check out myself) for more info and it's also a very easy, pleasant book to read. You can't have too much information when it comes to making a decision and you have to remember when reading it that everyone's tastes, likes, financial situation is different as well as that one thing you can't count on and that is 'luck' so everyone's experience will be different and where the authors encountered difficulty - it might be a mere walk in the park for someone else and vice versa.
the book stands alone as an easy to read 'travelogue' but is also worth a read for anyone considering that move to a place in the sun
