Looking at the "budget" market, every phone appears to have "issues" although the current leader is made by Motorola - but it's too big for me and has other constraints. So I found this one on Amazon which appears to have a reasonable screen and reasonable performance etc. and is almost half the price of the current "leader" - but it is not designed for the UK market.
Having got hold of the Chinese manual thanks to another buyer, and translated it in part with Google, the phone appeared to be OK for my purposes, so I ordered it.
It arrived in 2 days - and the box, etc. was fine for a consumer product apart from the lack of any manual (as expected). The phone has a good feel and seems well made, but I know nothing of Android phones. So I fitted the battery, SIM and SD card and charged it - Bang! it came to life and although it showed Chinese characters to begin with, it quickly swapped to English on recognising the SIM. After that I had fun setting up some other things, but everything was logical and everything worked.
So, no issues so far, I like the design, it's what I need and it works. It's early days but I think this phone is great value.
Update - After over a week of use, I have had no cause to reboot the phone, the battery life has been a expected and I am happy with my purchase. The only downside may be difficulty finding a case to fit it and/or batteries etc., but that's not yet an issue.
***** Update (August) - Arrived on holiday, took mobile from case to charge it and found the screen cracked. No damage to the phone, just a cracked screen which got progressively worse. This seems to be a design fault or just incredibly weak glass. MobiCity offered to replace the screen for £25, but I now have little confidence in the item, so will replace it with something more robust.
I received the phone sooner than expected. Thanks guys!
Now, although this is my first smartphone, I own a Nexus 7 tablet so not a noob to Android.
The screen is bright, clear and very responsive 99% of the time. There is a little lag here and there but not a bother for me.
All my favourite games work fine on it.
Internet through WiFi is slow-ish if i'm honest but useable (I won't be using it for that much anyway).
It feels good in the hand. Not too big or small. Others have commented how nice it looks and performs for the price.
One downside is that it's stuck on Gingerbread. No updates available. But again it's not bothering me so all in all i'm very happy with my purchase.
I found this phone whilst looking for a second hand phone for less that £100. My expectations were low as it being very low cost and imported from China but i was pleasently surprised. The screen is crystal clear, the camera is great and it works fast too. There are downsides, OS is old and outdated and there is practically no internal storage space.
Overall for the Price it is a fantastic phone and well worth the money.
