Put simply, this phone offers unbeatable specifications for the price, with many professional reviewers saying it is the "Best Budget Smartphone" to date. For this price, you simply cannot get anything better.
# Brilliant performance comparable to high end phones, but at a fraction of the price
# Great operating system free from annoying bloatware and likely to be upgraded to android Nougat 7.0 relatively soon.
# Surprisingly good camera that produces colourful vibrant pictures, even in challenging light conditions.
# Bright and clear high definition screen that holds up well even outside in sunny conditions.
# Handy moto app, allowing quick access to camera and torch.
# No NFC or Magnometer
# Slightly on the large side
# Camera could be better in low light levels.
The G4 comes with Android's latest operating system, Marshmallow 6.0.1 which is the smoothest most user friendly incarnation of the firmware to date, with crisp easy to navigate menus throughout, and plenty of useful shortcuts (such as the ability to control WiFi and data usage from the lock screen). There's also a built in battery saver mode, for those moments when you need to make your phone last as long as possible, and a Do Not Disturb setting which silences certain notifications between user configured times, perfect if you hate being woken up in the middle of the night by useless random emails, but still want your phone to alert you if specific people text or call you.Read more ›
I use my phone for emails, internet, google maps, controlling my sonos, the odd game when shopping with my wife, listening to music while jogging,
In short, cheap phones used to give you a cheap experience. This phone has all the power, screen resolution and battery to do exactly what I need it to do. During a normal days usage, it's usually got about 40% battery left in it when I plug it in at night. The casing is plastic and feels like it was made by a toy company, but I don't care.
I have never had a problem with connectivity or software.
I disliked the bloatware with my Sony, refreshingly this has no bloatware.
This phone has given me the same experience I used to get from the top end phones but at approx £150, it costs as much as the other phones cost to repair. So if I do drop this one, I'll just buy another.
Maybe the top end phones now are coming with stuff I just don't care about (waterproof, beyond necessary cameras (I'll use my compact of SLR thanks), finger print readers etc, stuff I don't need) so this fits me perfectly.
First: battery - have charged my phone 3 times in 6 days, so it would hold about 48 hours of normal use - calls/Viber/Google browsing/some Youtube, fast charge in about 1 hour 30 mins.
Second: performance - no issues in daily tasks , never got frozen so far. Can not judge regarding the gaming's or high res graphics as I do not have time for them.
Third: display - nice crisp colors, display just ideal size, even though may seem big at first, and fit easily in my jeans pockets and in my hands, but that would not fit youngsters skinny jeans style, but there are not many phones that would actually fit into their pockets I think.
Four: sound - phone has only one front speaker, but I found it having a discussion cent sound, no distortion at high volumes. Oh yeah, first hour of use, there was a hissing sound when making or taking calls, but then it disappeared, so all fine.
Five: cameras - good pictures quality from normal user point of view, can not judge as a professional photographer.
Six: design and android - I always liked simple design, and clean operating system.Read more ›
It comes with the latest version of Android Marshmallow which is excellent. It's a cleaner version of Android than most phones run so you won't have lots of bloatware slowing your phone down.
The sim card slot holds a Micro Sim or Nano Sim (adapter supplied).
The phone has a lovely 5.5 inch screen which seems to fill the whole body. It looks as big as an iPhone 6. It makes my old Samsung S5 look small. Because it's bigger you may find that one handed operation isn't quite as easy as your old phone.
The camera is excellent - 16mp on the back (G4 Plus only) and 5mp on the front (widescreen for perfect group selfies). I've seen some recent tests where the camera out performs the iPhone 6 camera, rendering clearer and sharper pictures with lovely natural colours.
Memory is easily expanded with a MicroSD card up to 32GB. A great feature of Marshmallow is that you can now use your MicroSD card as additional storage for things like photos and video, or merge it with the system memory to gain more space for apps. Once you merge the card and use it as internal memory it can't be read by others devices. If you don't have a very fast card you may find that you'll get a warning that the card is too slow and app performance may be affected. If you get this then either change the card for a faster one or just use the card for external storage for photos and video like I did.Read more ›
