The 2014 Motorola Moto G doesn't flatten last year's model in every respect. It's bigger and less comfortable to hold but a much-improved camera and larger screen make it a worthwhile update.

The 2014 version of the Moto G has an imposing task ahead of it. To live up to expectations it needs to better one of the most popular smartphones ever made, not to mention the best-selling phone Motorola has ever produced. I am, of course, talking about the 2013 Moto G.

The 2014 Moto G offers a larger 5-inch screen and an improved camera. Sure enough, the 2014 Moto G's camera is a whole lot better, and having a 5-inch screen instead of a 4.5-inch visage is great in many situations. It is not a flat-out better phone in every respect though. Its larger frame isn't as palm-friendly, it's not quite as good-looking and battery stamina is worse than the old model.

The two big upgrades the latest Moto G brings to the table compared to the Moto G (2014) is the camera and design, with the snapper being upgraded to 13 megapixels - the same as the one found in Motorola's (much more expensive) Nexus 6.

Design
The Moto G (2014) design is very similar to the older model, but also borrows a few new design traits from the original Moto E. You can't miss the primary change of little metal bars above and below the screen.

They're not there for the look and, let's be honest, they don't really look all that great. But they do mark where the front stereo speakers live. The original Moto G used a single mono speaker on the back.

Moto G 2014
The metal bars mark the position of the front speakers
I do find this a real downgrade in looks, as much of the immediate design purity has been lost by sticking these not-exactly-subtle metal bits on the front.

Product arrived on time, boxed and as new.
This is the second one of these phones ive purchased this year, both intended as gifts for my parents who are both in their 60's.
For them, the large 5" screen is important and they are familiar with using these as they both have Nexus 7 tablets.
The black has a softer touch almoat rubberised back, the white one a harder plastic.

Only downside with purchase is it was supplied with a European OEM charger (2 pin) in the box.

The seller did provide a brand new UK 3-pin USB plug and cable for charging although this was branded BlackBerry and not Motorola.

I'd rather have that than a cheap non branded generic USB charging cable but still, would have been nice to have this advice prior to buying.

I think this product is discontinued but if you find it cheap it is certainly worth it. After 2.5 years of daily use it is time for me to upgrade. App storafe space is the only limiting factor here but if you aee not going to load up heaps and heaps of apps then not a problem. It has 2 sim slots and a sdcard slot which was awesome when travelling as I had all my files to hand plus a sim alot for the local simcard of the country I was visiting.

Poor colours, some issues with the operating system, which was plain Android, and limited memory which got used up too quickly.
I returned the mobile to Amazon, excellent service from them as usual, but this particular product is disappointing.

Lovely sized phone and good performer, for the price. I won't rate it 5-stars, though, as it seems a little sluggish in comparison with my 4.5" 1st generation Moto G, and the screen isn't as smooth to the touch, which is a shame. I love the stereo sound for music and TV, but have no use for 2 SIM slots. Nice to have the SD card storage, too, though I don't save much on the phone so it's a bit superfluous for me.

It's a decent phone but has gotten painfully slow in the year and a half that it's been used. It's also stopped getting OS updates, so the lesson is not to buy a Moto G when the new one (moto G 3 at the time) has just come out, as we did.

This phone has just stopped working - 16 months is not long considering I didn't use it very often as I have a work phone so more often had this with me. Disappointed with it.
