Product description
Product Description
The ROG Maximus V GENE features the new Intel Z77 express chipset and comes with SupremeFX® III audio and network traffic management via Intel® Ethernet and ASUS GameFirst technology, affording smoother and more immersive gameplay. Containing display port and HDMI, the Maximus V GENE also includes Smart DIGI+ power control and the world’s first Dual Intelligent Processors from ASUS consisting of two dedicated onboard chips, the TPU and EPU. This also consists of multiple digital voltage controllers that allow for ultra-precise tuning of CPU, iGPU and DRAM power delivery while working with the TPU to ramp up performance to full potential for the ultimate user experience.
The new architecture creates a cooler and quieter desktop carefully designed in accordance with next generation Intel® VRD 12.5 power standards to offer consumers the very latest in innovation and readiness. Fan Auto Tuning Mode scans fans individually to detect their thermal properties through automatic speed sensing. Custom fan speeds can be adjusted automatically or manually with a single mouse click, achieving an optimal balance of cooling and low noise. Extreme Engine Digi+ combines analogue and digital elements with an adjustable CPU PWN frequency to efficiently dissipate heat and achieve a better electric conduction; keeping the overall motherboard reliable. Fan Xpert 2 also includes an RPM Fixed Mode for users who wish to reduce noise levels to near 0dB, with highly specific fan speed controls that react to actual system loads for more accurate response.
Furthermore the Maximus V GENE includes support for both NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX which offer the ultimate in flexibility for 3D graphics and Intel® Smart Response Technology, Intel® Smart Connect Technology, and Intel® Rapid Start Technology, while also natively supporting PCI Express 3.0.

First off, It's probably the nicest motherbaord i've ever see. Very high and respectable build quality all-out! It's size lets it fit into mid-tower cases and it still supports some high-tech features you'd only expect on high-end (Full tower) boards. It's Q-Code has been a delight already! This is regrettably a feature I dont believe you an turn off, but it's very useful to diagnose issues!
Performance wise, this board is great! It's the back-bone in my system and ensure everything's working correctly. It's on-board sound is good, but contrary to some reviews, I find the default bass over-welming --I use a 5.1 sound system.
Whilst the board is sexy, fast and any computer enthusiasts dream, I'd like to point out a major issue. I've found that my old Samsung HD wasn't compatible (as such) with the Z77 chipset. From the first boot to it's fateful last my HDD was making mechanical noises as though the arm was malfunctioning. After around 4 cluncks the PC would boot but eventually the HDD failed. My new WD has no problem at all. It's great! But I'd like to make buyers aware of this issue. Please note, my HDD was around 4 years old and was in perfect working condition the day before my pc upgrade AND all appropriate measures were taken during removal and instillation.
But my HDD was old and it certainly had it's workouts! So please don't let this cloud the board too much! I'd highly recommend this board to any fellow gamer or pure power lover!

Looks great, easy to install and the mSATA is great for a Boot drive.
Don't hesitate well worth the money for all the add ons.

With the Asus Maximus system is super stable and supper fast :)
Its stylish, reliable and compact, UEFI BIOS is easy to navigate and this board is tailored for overclocking.
I don't overclock, i just wanted a durable, reliable and high quality MOBO - and Asus have delivered again.
This is a really good Mboard the bios is a peace of cake to use if you want to have a go at overclocking, if you do i recommend downloading the latest bios as mine seemed to crash a couple of times until i did. It has a "funky" channel drilled into the board which is lit up with via small Led's that show off where the sound chip is , though you can turn this off in the bios if you wish.
The sound is pretty good for an on board chip, i don't see any need to update to a separate card anytime soon as it's perfectly fine for gaming. It sounds really good through my THX set up with nice smooth bass that doesn't overwhelm the mid range, there are plenty of options included with the sound blaster x-fi software to tweak to your own personal taste.
The bundled software is excellent, you get a full copy of deamon tools, a 1 year license to Kaperski Av unfortunately you need to upgrade it to be able to use there fire wall but still good for the everyday user/
LudicLogix Virtu MVP enables you to use the integrated gfx with you own separate card to give you a nice performance boost to your games (up to 60%), running BF3 on ultra settings with full AA with a GTX 560ti at 1920x1080 is a joy, it doesn't even break into a sweat, so i would imagine playing at a higher resolution (i can't with my current screen) wouldn't be a problem.
I highly recommend this board it's a overclockers dream i have manged to get mine upto 4.8ghz on air cooling using a artec freezer pro 13, though i am currently running it at 4.4 as i find it's more than i need atm, i know i can go faster in the future if i need it to.
The board arrived quickly and was well packaged as always from amazon.
if your looking for a decent backbone for a new build that overclocks with ease then you can't go wrong with this board :)

This does seem to be one of the favourite Z77 motherboards for overclocking, although I haven't ventured into that as yet.
I can't say much more about it, haven't had any issues, has tons of ports to connect to, great small form factor.
If you want all the features of Z77, overhead room for overclocking and all on a nice small form factor, get this board.
