Review

"Two insiders reveal some of the more fantastic episodes in the history of Israeli intelligence operations around the world. A quick and easy read, this book focuses on the operational details and personalities behind the famed Mossad's record of assassination, kidnapping, sabotage, and clandestine surveillance."--Publishers Weekly

From the Back Cover

The Mossad is widely recognized today as the best intelligence service in the world. It is also the most enigmatic, shrouded in secrecy. Mossad: The Greatest Missions of the Israeli Secret Service unveils the defi ning and most dangerous operations that have shaped Israel and the world at large from the agency's more than sixty-year history, among them: the capture of Adolf Eichmann, the eradication of Black September, the destruction of the Syrian nuclear facility, and the elimination of key Iranian nuclear scientists.

Through intensive research and exclusive interviews with Israeli leaders and Mossad agents, authors Michael Bar-Zohar and Nissim Mishal re-create these missions in riveting detail, vividly bringing to life the heroic operatives who risked everything in the face of unimaginable danger. In the words of Shimon Peres, president of Israel, this gripping, white-knuckle read "tells what should have been known and isn't that Israel's hidden force is as formidable as its recognized physical strength."" --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

This book is very interesting, no other way to put it. Plenty of (I think) new information on various different operations undertaken by the state of Israel. It is written with a certain tone that is bound to irritate those people who are vehemently against all things Israeli, so if you hate Israel and believe it should not exist, don't read it. If you just like reading non fiction historical books about the modern era, this will be an interesting read. Even if you know next to nothing about the middle east (and beyond) its still worth a read. My favourite chapters were the operation to evacuate the Ethiopian Jews. The lengths they went to were extraordinary. There is a bit of self criticism in here also, pertaining to the recklessness with which Mossad sometimes managed its own spies. Its a very good read. Recommended.

This book by Micheal Bar-Zohar and Nissim Mishal is easily one of the best books written about Mossad.(see also Samuel Katz's SOLDIER SPIES and Gordon Thomas' GIDEON'S SPIES).The great plus with this book is that it's up to date. The book is very enjoyable to read because it's well written with a focus on the personalities as well as details of operations around the world-thus avoiding a dry factual history of this covert organisation. It deserves the accolade of 'an International Bestseller'
Well worth the price of the book.Anyone interested in middle east affairs should get it.

A wonderfully comprehensive book about the famous Mossad, highly recommended. I came away with the highest opinion of some truly brave men and women who defend their country against all who would mean her harm. Extremely well written, and it was difficult to put down once I began it. The authors really know their subject.

True, it is the Israeli side of the story but these feats and exploits are amazing, reads like a superb action novel but is real life history.

Tends to be rather a list of what happened :
John did this
Jane did that
Then they went home
Some years later they got a medal each!
Even the Eichmann abduction is a dry list of the events! There was no effort made to dramatise in any way. It ended up being somewhat boring!
As a Jew I was disappointed that an important part of my history was turned into a very dry account of the facts - very like a college text book!

better than a spy thriller. i learned a lot i never knew. however the english translation deserves a native speaker: grammar and syntax need a little polish.
