I bought this after returning another brand's kettle that felt flimsy and cheap (in this price range). My standards for my kettle were:

* Must be black
* Must have clear, easy-to-see gauge on the side
* Must not take 100 years to boil
* Must not be too heavy (I have tendonitus).

I am pleased to report the kettle succeeded these tests. I have never owned a brita filter kettle before, but found the water strained through quite quickly.

The light on the side does not get as bright as the image shows - it mostly lights near the bottom. It was bright enough to see it boiling. I filled the kettle to max capacity - 6 cups - and found it did not spit. I put the flat of my palm on the lid - I did not get burned. The insulation on this kettle is surprisingly good, as my water was still quite hot 10 minutes after boiling.

It is a little heavier than I had anticipated, but to be fair, some of that weight is the brita filter. It is very easy to fit, no hassle at all, apart from preparing the filter to go in by dousing it in water.

The kettle looks and feels sturdy, and the plastic does not look horribly shiny/cheap under my kitchen spotlights.

I will update this review as I carry on using it, but for this price, I am extremely pleased - it looks very stylish in my kitchen and boils up a good cup of tea. I really cannot fault it, and would recommend it to others.

*UPDATE 16/11/14*

Kettle still working well! Only other comment is the hard water in my area builds into a slight limescale "crust" on the outside rim of the lid, which needs a bit of cleaning, which I guess is from water not quite filtered by the Brita cartridge rising as steam.

Have had this kettle for a couple of weeks now, and generally it's very good.

-Solid build quality, nothing loose or looking like it will fall apart before it's time.
-The design to accommodate the extra filter means cleaning and maintaining it will be very easy.
-Quick boiling time.
-The filter itself is a simple system that can be maintained fairly cheaply (the filters last about a month and cost about £4 each to replace). You can also totally remove the filtering system if you wish and just use it as a normal kettle.

~~HOWEVER~~

The main issue we have had with this kettle is it took a long time to get rid of the overpowering taste of plastic it gives your tea/coffee. The guidelines that come with it recommend boiling and emptying it a few times before use. This is massively insufficient. In the end we used a mixture of water and bicarbonate of soda TWICE (and brought to the boil) and vinegar and water TWICE (also brought to the boil) before it started to produce an end result that tasted more like tea than sucking on a cheap christmas cracker toy.

The only other quibble is if you are intending on filtering all the water you boil you will need to fill the filter compartment twice if you are intending on making tea/coffee for more than two people. This is only a minor quibble, but for larger families (or when you have guests) this becomes a pain when you have to sit by the kettle for 5 minutes and just wanted to quickly flick the kettle on. You CAN however totally remove the filtering compartment and just use the kettle as normal.

The filter allows the boiling water to be crystal clear and gives a better cup of tea for all - great.

Well worth the money. Makes a very nice cup of tea. Nice tasting drinking water as well. Should've bought one years ago.

After using this kettle for just over a month I would say that it is very well made with good rigid plastic. It boils quickly - even when full.
The filter system is effective and it is pleasant to have really clear water especially as I live in a hard water area. The filter, which is easy to install, does make the kettle heavier than normal but this is not a real problem for me.

The only niggle is that the water takes a while trickling through the filter. The kettle can be switched on while this happens but it is difficult to judge from the levels marked on the side of the kettle, exactly how much water you have poured in. When it settles you may discover that there is far more than you intended, which rather defeats the idea of water economy! The only way to avoid this would be to wait till the water level has settled before switching on - which I don't think most people would be happy to do. I can usually guess the amount now, but maybe the manufacturer can improve this aspect for future models.

I dont like to give feedback on products until I have had them some time, so to me this is early days. I would say so far so good. I like the streamlined look of the kettle. It is working fine. Yes it is noisy and it is heavy but as somone who has been using Brita kettles own make, for several years, this is the norm if that is the sort of kettle one wants. I tend to fill mine with a small jug, leaving the kettle on its stand when doing so. I only ordered Morphy Richards kettle because Brita did not offer a white one and I hate chrome. I have had several Brita kettles over the years and they usually end up leaking, and often lids shoot up when they are boiling, The taste can be a bit strange just after changing the filter so it is important to rinse several times. My last Brita excelled itself and did not leak until after about 4 years, so they would have got my order had they still offered it in White. However, so far I am very pleased with the Morphy Richards. To date, the lid has not come up, it needs lots of filling and emptying after changing the filter, more than they suggest, so that the taste is not affected, but that is the norm for Brita, filters, (not Morphy Richards fault) and if it lasts a long time before eventually leaking,I shall be ordering this kettle again. With the proviso of course that they offer it in White! My kitchen is white and it looks great. So if it behaves as good as it looks, I shall be a Morphy Richards fan in future. I would have bought the matching toaster but they have put too much chrome on it.
