Metal Mickey for the kitchen
24 October 2011
I have had this a while, as I wanted to raodtest it first before reviewing.
Its a reasonable siezed product, kind of like a huge egg that sits on your worktop. It suggests doing multitude of tasks which certainly appeals to myself and no doubt other people !
Normally I have loads of kitchen units- slow cooker, grills, rice cookers etc and the idea of having one gadget and something easier to use seemed great .
I also dont keep very well, and sometimes are not well enough to stand making a long dinner and need something quick.
The intellichef is quick- the slow cooker only has one setting- not high or low- and cooks everything within an hour .The intellichef is really easy to operate with different menus offering fry, boil, pasta/rice, stew etc. Within most of these setting s you can also set the time or on a pre-determined timings under fish, meat ,vegeatables .
Which is ok, but I have tended to find the intellichef works at a higher temperature and ten miuntes for onions which they suggest under vegetables) means they are burnt. It also means there is no really simmer available and you have to watch some foods dont get burnt- more in the boil and fry settings.
The recipe book is ok but the basic instructions are rubbish and are a real bad let down. I got most of my information on how to use it from the internet.
I must say even after having it for about a year Im still struggling with how to cook certain food, so tend to stick to my favourites. Which is a shame as Im sure if properly used this could be really efficent.
It is excellent at cooking rice , not so keen on the pasta, and very fast at slow cooking. I have not tried cakes, aprtly because I love baking cakes, also their are limited recipes for cakes and also sometimes smells of other cooked food can linger a bit in the machine. As for cleaning it is very easy, but the rim and nozzle at the top can get all bunged up with dirt from the boiling processes and are a bit fiddily- also the base of the intellichef, where the bowl sits, seems to be getting easily burnt- something Im concerned about.
Overall I would recommend this, it has good capacity where I can cook about meals for 4-6 and also just for myself. I think if it had temperature controls it be far better and a better instruction/ information leaflet is definately required.
