To our complete surprise, they said as long as we provided proof of purchase, we would be sent a new machine and were told not to ship the faulty one back, but to dispose of it safely. We didn't want to throw away a perfectly working (apart from the froth 'wand') coffee machine, so it's now at my future brother-in-law's house functioning as a standard coffee maker! The moral of the story is that Morphy Richards' customer care is brilliant, so do get in contact with them if your machine doesn't work properly.
Regarding the machine itself, it fits in with the rest of our purple-accented kitchen perfectly (which was at least part of the reason for buying it!), and comes with a good selection of accessories (the combined scoop/tamper is a great idea). It's surprisingly dinky for a coffee machine (the whole unit is not much bigger than a kettle), so it should fit into the tightest of spaces. The only thing missing (and this is just being picky) is a single-spout, double-size basket, for those who have smaller shot-size espresso mugs and want a double-size shot - mine doesn't fit under both spouts, so I have to use either a larger cup or my preferred option of coffee-house style glass shot-glasses, which are emptied into my mug.Read more ›
No trouble to set up and works just fine. Not quite as automated as some of the more expensive machines, but I can't fault the coffee.
Like most modern espresso machines around this price mark however it is woefully inadequate.
Fifteen years ago I bought a Krups espresso maker from Morrisons for £16.99. You filled the filter put a pot of water into the machine switched it on and forgot about it until the coffee was ready. It produced good strong espresso every time (surely the whole point !!)
Sadly it died (exploded) on Saturday !
As cover we bought a DeLonghi espresso maker some years ago. It came with a shallow filter, so strong coffee was impossible and it had tubes everywhere. We threw it out.
The quality of the Morphy Richard unit is vastly superior. In fact the build quality is in a different universe from the Delonghi.
Again however, it comes with woefully shallow filters which means that producing anything approaching an espresso is a complete impossibility. Also unlike the Krups which just required to be switched on but like the DeLonghi you have the whole rigmarole of switch on, wait for heat up, press dispensing button, switch off dispensing button, fill up with water again, wait for heat up, press steam dispenser, switch off steam dispenser then add thoroughly unsteamed milk to your cold weak coffee !
It'll probably go into the bin. I'm desperately disappointed.
This is pathetic. Does anyone make a sensible espresso maker at a sensible price in this day & age or indeed at any price ?

I use this every morning, makes a great coffee without any fuss. If your coffee is not coming out the way you want it to, you are probably not doing it right - check out youtube... Read morePublished on 5 Dec. 2013 by ms
Only used it a few times so far… it uses pods easily, but seems to take a long time for the water to come through but i think it is getting faster so may just be early use. Read morePublished on 16 Nov. 2013 by David M. Downing
Does great tasting fresh coffee at the perfect strength. There is an alternative insert that you can use for the coffee pods (like big teabags) but they didn't work nearly as well... Read morePublished on 14 Nov. 2013 by Victoria Jayne
Great value, ideal for posh coffee at home. Once you master the froth / coffee ratio it is great. Well worth the money.Published on 31 Oct. 2013 by Jacqueline Mclaughlin
