As a medical biology student used to dealing with purely scientific courses, being faced with a project on the ethics of research was extremely daunting to me and I thought I would be uninterested in the topic. But, I read this book as a taster for the subject and to help me decide on the topic of my essay, and found it to not only be extremely helpful in covering many of the main bases in research ethics (without being too long), but extremely interesting due to the way it dealt with these issues through a series of fascinating historical examples. It was a great read and I would recommend it to all, not just those with a medical background.

I really enjoyed reading this book. When I first approached the book I thought that perhaps I would not be able to engage with it fully as I do not have a medical background. However, this was not the case! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about important events in the history of medical research trials and I would recommend this book to anyone.

From the same excellent author who wrote 'Trial by Fire', a history of Clinical Trials, this collection of fascinating stories on the history of Research Ethics is a must have for anyone interested in clinical research. Very highly recommended.
