Nominated for 8 Academy Awards and 4 BAFTA’s including Best Picture and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Naomie Harris, Moonlight is a timeless story of human connection and self-discovery. The film chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighbourhood of Miami.

Artfully produced, this film is relevant to all film fans and is worthy of multiple viewings. It handles difficult issues with élan and has much to offer the viewer.
I would thoroughly recommend it for any film collection.
This is a slow movie, it’s very thought provoking but slow and in places drags things out, but overall I enjoyed this and recommend it
In all honesty, I didn’t pay much attention to this film at the time of its cinematic release because it ‘didn’t look like my kind of thing’. However, it recently came to my attention that it features two of my favourite records within it’s soundtrack, tracks that are not particularly well known to the world, but via this film have had the exposure the both truly deserve, albeit 50+ years down the line.
So, for the two reasons given, I bought the blu-ray of Moonlight, just to hear how they were used in the film, I wasn’t disappointed. They were both beautifully woven into this ‘coming of age’ film that follows the story of Chiron as he grows from boyhood to manhood in Miami. I won’t discuss the story (or non-story, as some 1 star reviews have mentioned), but to me, that sequence in the diner was enough to justify the purchase of this film. Beautiful. Go buy it!
In the year that La La Land seemed to grab most of the publicity, this film is most definitely One Step Ahead. Shh bop shh bop, my baby ooh...
Moonlight will reward all who can see it.
