A fantastic read. I find it quite unbelievable that any true fan of Jon Pertwee would give this book a poor review just because he has not mentioned his time as the 3rd incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who.

The clue is on the front cover.... The early years of the man who was Doctor Who.

I thought it was a thoroughly enjoyable read about the life of one of Britain's great entertainers during a difficult and frightful period in the nation's history. Some of the revelations and the people he met along the journey are quite breathtaking. WoW moments indeed.

If you want to know more about the 'Doctor Who' years i suggest you read the official second part of the autobiography written by Jon Pertwee and David J. Howe called "I am the Doctor!: Jon Pertwee's Final Memoir".

Sadly the second part was completed a couple of weeks before Jon Pertwee's death.

I also look forward to reading "Worzel Gummidge: A very special scarecrow by Gary Wharton"

I was dissapointed that it was about Pertwee's early years only . He had a very varied and interesting early life , but it was the Dr who period and beyond that I was looking forward to. As long as people understand it is about his life in the 30s 40, and 50,s it is a good read. But for me personally the main element was missing

I remembered Jon Pertwee from the Navy Lark,on radio,a very funny actor. His book is humorous and a good read. However I just wish he hadn't told us so much about his childhood and so little about his acting career.I wonder if he was considering a second book before his death.A lot of the book is spent on his wartime naval career. He just avoided going off to sea on HMS Hood on her last doomed voyage. He does give us a chapter about his time on the Navy Lark, and that's about it.Rather a pity
