A brilliant book if either a Monster Hunter fan or general art/fantasy art fan. When holding the book, its size and shape almost makes you feel like you're looking through a photo album; albeit a photo album of monsters, armour and weapons :D Overall, a vast array of beautiful illustrations to pore over and admire!

From a purely objective viewpoint, this book is quite good. Considering it's called 'Monster Hunter Illustrations', you should know what to expect; lots of big pictures of the various things that can be found in the Monster Hunter series. On this score it's excellent - all the pictures are fantastic, detailed, colourful. Most of them have found their way onto the internet by now, but that's hardly the book's fault.
My biggest gripe is with the translations; Monster Hunter is a predominately Japanese series, but taking 3 and half years to get this book translated is more than a little excessive. The interviews aren't particularly interesting, the descriptive text that exists is too short and pithy, and there are occasional grammatical errors ('comein' isn't one word, 'plesioth' should have a capital P).
But apart from that, yes, it's a good book that I'd especially recommend for fans newer to the series that wont have seen all the pictures online yet.

It's not for me to claim that this is the best videogame art book, Udon-published or otherwise, but it is definitely my favourite. Beautifully produced, wonderful art throughout. This is an exhaustive look at the monster design, character design, weapon design and armour design for the first few games of the series (nothing on Tri or 3rd). As with all these Udon books though there could be more. Where the Mega Man books never seem to feature any pixel art this volume completely neglects the games' environments. We see nothing of the process that has gone into designing the actual world, surely as vital to the game as the beasts and weapons. The odd elongated shape of the book coupled with it's softback nature makes it difficult to hold as well. Still a vital purchase for fans of the game. Recommended.

This book has some really gorgeous art work, it shows designs for armour and weapons that never made it in to game but show the imagination and vision of the designers and artists.

An essential purchase for a Monster Hunter fan!
