Product Description

Product Description

DJs can put in some long hours as they spin the tunes and they need equipment that is both comfortable and rugged enough to withstand heavy use. Monoprice Premium Hi-Fi DJ Style Over-the-Ear Pro Headphone are designed for the professional sound spinner and the casual listener that wants the best quality sound and best durability available. The earpieces on these 'phones are equipped with thick, comfortable padding that keeps the music inside and the noise outside. They swivel up to 90 degrees so they can double as a makeshift set of speakers. The headphones can extend up to 1.5 inches on each side and are wide enough to fit over a cap, while maintaining good contact over the ears. The headpiece is also padded on the inside and is made of flexible rubber, ensuring that it won't break. The headsets do not have a fixed wire. Instead, there is a 3.5 mm jack in the bottom of the left earpiece, which allows a standard 3.5 mm audio patch cable to be inserted.

This means that if you break a wire, you don't have to throw away the headphones or make a messy repair; just get a new cable and you're ready to rock again. The 50 mm drivers and 100 dB sensitivity ensure that these 'phones produce good volume and premium sound clarity at all frequencies. The kit comes with two 3.5 mm male-to-male, gold-plated audio cables and a 3.5 mm to 1/4 inches gold-plated adapter plug. The thicker cable is over 11.5 feet long and is well suited for professional work and for laying back on your couch to enjoy the tunes. A thinner, lightweight cable is also included, which measures about 50 inches in length and is better suited for more portable operations. High-quality sound, supreme durability and maximum comfort.

I bought these for £16.61. It was the best investment I made in audio.

The sound: The sound is V-shaped meaning the mids are a little lacking, but nothing that an equalizer couldn't fix. The Treble is not tinny and the bass is clean and isn't over-powered. The headphones are closed-back meaning the sound isn't as 'airy' and 'whole' as it's open-back counterparts, but it does mean no one will be able to hear your music if you chose to crank the volume up, a big plus if your squashed next to someone in buses or trains. There is no noise-canceling, only passive sound isolation however little can be heard once the volume is turned up

Design: I have to admit, the headphones aren't as beautiful as other more expensive ones, but that's not what you are paying for. The padding is quite unconformable and when worn for a long periods of time can really hurt your ears, so not recommended for those long-haul flights. The cups are large and will fit around the ear.

The Box and contents: Very cheap and basic box (but what would you expect at the price?) The headphones sit on top with the audio adapter with the two wires( 50" for casual use and 11.5ft one for professional and studio use) A word of warning: get an additional wire for casual use as mine broke very quickly.

The current headphone market has been flooded in recent years by Celebrity-endorsed Cans with muddy sound and over-powered bass. These headphones are a beacon of light in the market. You can guarantee every penny you spend is for the sound that they deliver and not for a brand and fancy packaging with an autobiography of the washed-up celebrity endorser.

EDIT: 28/05/2015 I feel I have to add a little more detail to this review, even though it's been a while since I wrote it.

I bought these cans at about £16. It has so far been the best pair of headphones i have used.

Background: i used to buy gaming headphones since that has usually been what i have been doing mainly with my headphones. However back when i bought these i wanted something that had good audio, and was not too pricy. Noise insulation was also very important to me because i have a very loud roomate.

The sound is very balanced. It produces very clear audio and it does not overly focus on bass as most of my previous headphones did. It has excellent noise canceling with the volume turned up. My roomate has several times stood a few feet away and yelled my name and I'm not able to hear him if i have the volume turned way up.

Design: The design is not the best. They are not the prettiest headphones on the market, however at this price point that is to be expected. I use the headphones in extended sessions daily and i very rarely feel discomfort wearing them.

These are by far the most durable headphones i have ever had. I have dropped the headphones more than ten times and i havent noticed any drop in sound quality, while it is certainly not healthy to drop them on the ground they have exhibited just how durable they are.

I have encountered a few issues though the padding cracks, while this doesnt reduce usability it doesnt look pretty. the added a photo showcases this crackling. Also because the jack stick has to connect to the headphones themselves (shown with the red arrow) it often falls out if you move around and the wire gets caught on something.

Overall it is a great product. I am very satisfied with this product, and they have stood the test of time great. I bought this product the 29 Nov 2013. And at the time of writing the product still works perfectly, not mentioning the crackling of the padding.

As the headphone market becomes filled with celebrity endorsed, over priced fashion accessories, that packs more colour than performance, I was so suprised by how amazing these Monoprice headphones sound, and for the selling price of under £20, it is certainly one of the best headphone in term of performance to price ratio.

Presentation is very good indeed. The box does not reflect the price at all, looking like a more premium product. There are 2 removable cables provided. The thicker cable is very long at 10' long, and another shorter and thinner cable is provided, but I find the quality is less than the 10' cable and feel slightly flimsy. A 1/4 inch adapter is included, that's it. So no pouch is provided. The 1/8 inch cables detaches at the left side of the headphone, a fairly normal feature in headphones with detachable cables. The build quality is sturdy, and considering the price, it's remarkable how they are able to make it as rigid as it is. It seem to be able take quite a bit of abuse before it get damaged.

Isolation is fair, so it would work well in isolating medium outside noise. Leakage is about average too, so it will not likely to disturb the people around you at normal listening level. The headphones are not the most comfortable due to the padding not being very soft. They are light on the head due to the all plastic build.

The sound quality of these headphone compare well to headphones costing up to £60. I would describe the headphone a touch brighter than neutral. Vocals sound very clear with only occasionally sounding sibilant in certain tracks. Instrument separation is good and can reproduce acoustic instruments accurately, though the soundstage is not particularly wide.
