Installing it wasn't too too bad but I found going on Youtube easier than the paper it came with.
I loved it from the second I turned them on.
The first level of brightness was more than enough.
Now for how they saved me.
Three months and I was knocked down three times and the drivers said "I didn't see you".
I didn't think this was a good situation so opted to have them on my front wheel.
I've had cops pull me over and ask what they are. I've had other cyclist say what is it while I was cycling and explained to them what they where and they said more bikes should have them.
I was almost T-boned by a car. The driver then drove next to me as I was going down the road and said So sorry mate. If it weren't for those lights I would have turned ya into a hood ornament.
Now the bad points.... You can really see the lights as you riding unless you lean your bike a bit as you're peddling away.
Other than that I can not fault them.
I actually feel that the more people point them out the safer I feel on the road. If they can see me and notice me then they won't hit me.
If anyone thinks they look silly, I don't care, because that means THEY'VE SEEN ME and are therefore way less likely to run me over (or step out in to the road right into my path).
Obviously, they are not a substitute for main front-and-back lights. They won't help you see where you're going, and they're not really visible from behind or head-on to your bike. But as a really fun extra that helps boost the side-on visibility it really can't be beaten.
The patterns never really get as visible as shown in the photo unless you're going VERY fast in a VERY dark area - but even at modest speeds they will be visible to drivers. The faster your wheel is turning, the more "complete" the image appears.
Someone else has pointed out that you can't really see them yourself when you're riding, which is true, but still I feel excited about them and you do get noticed on the street in a positive way. Usually people react so indifferently or with annoyance at cyclists, but now I notice a lot more people going "wow, cool" - which is a nice change! They key thing really is just to be visible.
At a time when London is talking about bicycle safety, I think this is a great product in addition to good front and rear lights which all cyclists should have. I come across a lot of cyclist on the roads of London who have front and rear lights, but still you can barely notice them in the dark. Monkey lights shouldn't be relied on alone as they cannot be seen from front and back, but I think it does help to be visible from the sides as cars (and even pedestrians) at T-junctions can't always see cyclists riding past them and I think everything helps.
It's quite easy to install, I recommend looking up the MonkeyLectric installation video on YouTube as it's very well made and is a lot easier to understand than their paper instructions which come with the product.
I find that the parts fit well and securely if you do all the cable-ties up nice and tightly. I don't even notice the weight on my bike.
I want to thank the inventors for making cycling just that bit more exciting and fun!
Now that it's dark for almost half of my working day I find them a lifesaver in the busy traffic, and they are a lot of fun.

For most purposes you will not get a 360 degree arc of light. But will not reduce its safety benefit.
