""MONEY Master the Game" will be a huge help to investors. Tony Robbins dropped by my office for a forty-minute appointment that lasted for four hours. It was the most provocative, probing interview of my long career, a reaction shared, I'm sure, by the other souls with strong investment values and sharp financial minds who populate this fine book. This book will enlighten you and reinforce your understanding of how to master the money game and, in the long run, earn you financial freedom."--John C. Bogle, founder, the Vanguard Group and the Vanguard Index Funds

"Tony Robbins is a human locksmith--he knows how to open your mind to larger possibilities. Using his unique insights into human nature, he's found a way to simplify the strategies of the world's greatest investors and create a simple 7-step system that anyone can use on the path to the financial freedom they deserve."--Paul Tudor Jones, founder, Tudor Investment and Legendary Trader

"In this book Tony masterfully weaves anecdote and expertise to simplify for readers the process of investing--priming their financial education and helping them effectively plan for their future."--Mary Callahan Erdoes, CEO, J.P. Morgan Asset Management

"You can't meet Tony Robbins and listen to his words without being inspired to act. This book will give you the strategies to create financial freedom for yourself and your family."--T. Boone Pickens

"A commanding book....after reading this book, readers will be armed with the essential tools they need to gain control of their financial future and chart a path to success."--Publishers Weekly

Please note, this review was written by Roman M from USA website, I was asked to put it here so you UK guys can read it as it was an honest and very thorough review.

** My own personal view was this book was inspirational, although perhaps long and parts repeated.. it was definitely useful to read and more importantly, it got me thinking/focusing on my long term investments.
As a trader in financial markets, I found the advice for beginners to not try and trade themselves and complete with pros was a solid one and Tony instead gave resources on how a beginner to more safely gain returns.
He also talked about the many dirty tricks pensions funds use to steal your money. I have been getting robbed blindly for 10 years now! Time to put a stop to that!
I personally made a note to re-read as so much useful content **

But enough about me, here is Roman's fantastic review that gives another perspective on the matter and will help give you all a balanced view of this book :

I realize that this is not going to be a popular review in a sea of readers who are either huge fans of Tony's work or people who are new to investing and I am in no way trying to discourage anyone from buying the book. I just hope that a few people will read this with an open mind in order to make an informed purchase.

I started following Tony's advice back in the early 90s, when I was a teenager, and am very familiar with all of his principles.

Where to start with this ... As a relatively new investor (been saving in an ISA for the last 18 months), I bought this on a whim, not expecting any massively deep insights, but hoping for a sugar coated overview of investing/saving to hopefully learn a bit more about the various options open to me.

What I got though was a confusing mixture of hype and celebrity that has left me needing to write this review for some kind of therapy despite only being half way through the book.

The first thing to say is that, despite a couple of weak protestations to the contrary, this book is aimed squarely aimed at the US market. You're not going to find any mentions of ISAs or the FTSE in here. Instead, all examples, numbers and case studies are focused on the US and the performance of the S&P 500.

And it's stretched out over 700 pages. Man, is it stretched out. This could be a 100 pages long if it weren't for descriptions of Tony's seminars, his house in Florida, the resort he owns in Fiji (which comes highly recommended by Oprah Winfrey don't you know!), other famous people he knows, summaries of the whole book at the end of most chapters (which ironically show just how short the book could be!) and on-going promises about what this book's going to do for your life.

For example, a whole chapter is dedicated to how incredibly important it is to get your portfolio allocation right. All of his rock-star investment buddies stress that you need to decide how much of your savings are going to be put into your `Safe Pot' and how much is going to go into your `Risk Pot.' Once you've decide this, you shouldn't change your mind - after all this is the bedrock of everything you're going to be doing in the future and is ultimately what is going to decide your financial future.

Firstly if you are not in the US there is very little of use in the book other than broad generalities. Its all about US products under US tax laws and this should maybe be made clear.

Secondly the whole book seems to be an advert for companies that Tony must have some sort of financial arrangement or interest in... the constant mentioning of these two companies reads like an affiliate blog post - it actually gets ridiculous at times. Im sure they are very good companies but really we get the message after the first chapter.

And the big reveals? The build up and hype and all the "I'll tell you soon"s lead up to the big secret and it's frankly a case of OK thats nice.

This book could have been edited down to one or two chapters. It was really just a long form sales letter with at times very middle of the road copywriting.

I'm sure it will help some people - possibly many thousands - but the real winners will be the two promoted companies and Tony with his percentage.

I'm a huge fan of Tony Robbins and have read his two previous books: Unlimited Power and Awaken the Giant Within. Unfortunately, this book is one of the worst pieces he has written.

To be fair, he does include some valuable material, for example regarding hidden costs in mutual funds, and also tricks such as survivorship bias (where fund management groups close/merge poorly performing funds and therefore only quote the past performance of winning funds).

Unfortunately, however, Tony pads out the book with endless clichés and aphorisms (Tony quoting clichés - surely not I hear you cry!). However of far greater concern is that he fails to mention the problem of induction when interpreting the performance of the investment superstars he discusses in the book. He also borders dangerously close to the data mining fallacy when he discusses the back tested "performance" of the model asset allocation suggested by Ray Dalio. (For information re the problem of induction and data mining, I recommend Nassim Taleb's Fooled by Randomness.)

Tony scores top points for BS with his advice for people who can't afford to set up a monthly investment plan: he explains how anyone can save $160 per month off their monthly expenses by not going out to a restaurant every week, but instead having pizza and beer with friends at home. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to understand that few people go to a restaurant every week and therefore his advice probably only applies to something like 5% of the population.

On a more humorous note, it's actually hilarious how Tony includes completely contradictory advice from different investment "experts" without properly discussing these contradictions.
