I found this interesting - to say the least, but It covers dating mainly for the under 20's perhaps? As we are now in an age where individuals are thrown into the dating scene regardless of age, I found that it didn't seem to help us older singles much - but gives an insight as to what goes on out there !!! Just what goes on in a mans brain once they are over 40? - apart from the obvious that is !!!

The book would be very useful for someone with little dating experience. However being mature, a lot of the information is quite obvious and it just represents general common sense but it is a good read.

HASH(0x9b68c744) out of 5 stars Honestly, you're not going to read a better dating book 30 April 2013
By Mal9g - Published on Amazon.com

Take a look at the other best-sellers in this category, and they're all ridiculous - "Why Men Love Bitches" and "How to Get Men to Fall in Love With You Even Though You're Terrible" etc etc. This book is actually USEFUL, plus it's extremely addictive and fun to read. I'm inspired to actually GO on a date and have fun, rather than try to change myself so I can "get men to fall for me." If the author offered a phone-advice service so I could call her after dates and ask her opinion on how it went, I would use it.

HASH(0x9b665168) out of 5 stars Not very modern Modern Dating 23 Jan. 2014

I bought this book for the howaboutwe membership.

All things considered, I'd say that at age 26, this book doesn't have a lot of new stuff to tell me regarding all things vanilla and mainstream in the dating world. It's full of advice that's going to seem obvious to anyone who's been dating and sexing for a while. It's got Captain Obvious advice ("be direct! Say you want to have sex!"), a frankly bizarre "judging men by their books" section (loving Joyce Carol Oates is a sign that a guy is delicate?!), an out-of-touch throwaway section about "how to know if a girl is into other girls" ("how does she feel about Shane in the L word?"), lots of casually sex-negative language ("walk of shame"), and tons of hammering it home that sleeping around is temporary and monogamy is the goal (despite some statistics at the beginning that speak to other kinds of lives)…

It's also peppered with alienating, sexist little jokes. Like how you totally need your male friends cuz they'll always be trying to get you to see the genius of Blade Runner. Because, y'know, guys are the ones who like science fiction or geeking out about movies! So funny!

There's a total absence of advice about balancing your kinks with your other dating priorities—something that my girlfriends and I talk about often!

Some of the technology stuff is good and on-point (don't stalk their facebook page on an iphone cuz you'll accidentally like something.)

HASH(0x9b665d20) out of 5 stars Insightful, hilarious and addictive 1 May 2013
By 2winzie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is a smart, funny book that has "next big thing," written all over it. Less a set of "dating rules" and more a companion for those of us in the trenches, 'Modern Dating' is full of the kind of good solid dating advice that a close friend would give. It's the only book on dating that I've ever read where I actually felt was talking about real things that have actually happened to me.

HASH(0x9ed365a0) out of 5 stars Actually Useful.. and pretty funny too 1 May 2013
By Michigangal09 - Published on Amazon.com

I started reading this book on my lunch break and couldn't put it down. So witty and honest. The author clearly gets what it's like to be single it today's world and gives really great advice that anyone who's been single can relate to. The section on texting etiquette is priceless haha.

Also, unlike a lot of books in this category, it didn't make me feel crappy about being single or dish out a bunch of crazy sounding, desperate advice. It's also filled with visuals and infographics too which are great, like the 'can you be friends with benefits?' chart that is hilarious but actually helpful. If you are single buy this book! Filled with way better advice than any friend will give you.

HASH(0x9ed365b8) out of 5 stars Seriously, great 1 May 2013

This is the perfect solution to those dense, ridiculously titled self-help books that are gaining popularity. It's honest and straight-forward with an awesome layout and great graphics. Love it.
