As a fan of the panel show, I was initially disappointed when I picked up this book: it's written by none of the show's regulars (Frankie, Hugh, Andy, Russell et al), and I feared that the book wouldn't be as funny as I hoped it would be.

I needn't have worried. This book is achingly funny and a great gift. BUT! And here's the key thing: it does require a bit of imagination, I think. As the book is basically one big 'Scenes We'd Like To See' gag reel in book form, you need to picture the Mock The Week gang gathered around the press pit, saying the quotes you read in the book. When you do, it's hilarious.

Of course, by that same token, this book may go over the heads of those who've never seen Mock The Week (but then again, why ever not?!).

If you love the show and can mentally picture you favourite comedians in the 'Press Pit', you'll be right at home with this treat.

As a huge fan of Mock the Week, I was looking forward to seeing what this book had to offer, and to be fair it's not bad. There's a few funny lines, but it's a million miles away from the dry wit that features on the TV show.
It's obvious that the likes of Russell Howard, Dara O'brien, Hugh Dennis and the legendary Frankie Boyle were nowhere near the room where this was written.
All in all, its an OK read with a few funny bits, but it gets a bit repeatitive and it lacks the creativity and whit that you'd expect from MTW.

Most of this book is pretty funny, but in places it starts just looking like lists based on a few ideas. There's a lot of good material, though. Recommended.

Just seems like a quickly thrown together bid to cash in on the popularity of the series, with none of the regular members of the cast giving a contribution.

Being a huge MTW fan and having been to the live recordings I was looking forward to a good chuckle at the book. It was not to be. It actually produced more of a half-hearted smile and was lacking in the "laugh-out-loud" quality produced by the wit and wisdom of the delectable Frankie Boyle. I read it once and then took it to the charidee shop.

Got this book from a bargain bin, and now I can see why. I bought it expecting it to be the same quality humour from the tv show, with perhaps some of the writing to have been borrowed from the performers. However I was wrong. Most of the humour is lack lustre, and could have been written by anyone. I'm not claiming to a great comedian, as I am not, but some of the jokes didn't even raise a slight smile. Most of it was dull, often refering to using swear words or smut in a lame attempt to get a laugh. (again, im not claiming to be a prude or against any kind of humour of this sort), it was just very much not my cup of tea. I'm not saying that it won't be funny to other people, but if you're looking for the same standard as the TV show then you're going to be disappointed, as I was.

Reading through it, you can almost hear the mock the week crew saying some of the phrases!! There are a couple of bits here and there that aren't that amusing, but most of the entries will have you laughing out loud! It's something that you can dip into time and time again, and it will definitely have you saying some of the phrases to random people :)

Now i have to be honest reading jokes from a book is definately not as good as hearing Frankie Boyle or Russel Howard saying them on Mock of the Week. But if your a fan of the programme and have that sense of humour i see no reason why you would not enjoy this just as much as i did.
