Product Description

Product Description

Includes 4 tracks not on The Big Come Up CD : The Moan,Heavy Soul (alternate version),No Fun,Have Love Will Travel (different version that the one on "Thickfreakness")."Here's how you get excited about the Black Keys : listen to them. Their Frankensound is created from bits of Led Zeppelin,Howlin' Wolf,Black Crowes,Dead Kennedys and Otis Redding. New stomp 'The Moan' and the b-side's brash handling of oft-covered Richard Berry tune 'Have Love Will Travel' are sure to Lazarus up any block party. Sneak these onto Grandpa's mix tape beside some early Junior Wells." - William Bowers/Magnet"The Black Keys specialize in stripped-down,indie-fied blues, complete with punchy riffs and Hendrix-esque guitar squalls. The low-fi buzz goes just fine with the excellently rough edges built into their sound." - Christian Hoard/Rolling Stone

Great little EP containing very raw and almost basic versions of four tracks, but creating that incredible soulful feeling that only the Keys can. Put this in the car stereo and drive off fast. It will put a big smile on your face. My favourite tracks are Heavy Soul and Everywhere I go, but really I listen to it as an EP, all four tracks as a single exquisite experience. Why 4/5? Because its only 4 tracks and you want more. But the best £4.00 you'll spend. Closest to their LP Rubber Factory in style because of course that is why one or two tracks originate from, but that is no bad thing.

This is good, but very short. The last track, a cover of 'have love will travel' by the sonics is excellent

4.0 out of 5 stars "The Moan" Arguably TBK's best song! 17 April 2008
By R. Wooten - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I'm kind of surprised more people haven't reviewed this EP. "The Moan" aside from "Busted" is my favorite of all TBK songs. The main riff sounds like a take off of Howlin' Wolf's "Moanin at Midnight". The middle of the song is Carney at his best and Dan ripping it up with variations of the great blues riff. This song alone makes this EP worth buying. I also really enjoy the fast paced new version of "Have Love Will Travel". This song was already a good one from their album "Thickfreakness" but it's made even better here. The Keys have another reprint on this album "Heavy Soul". I like the song but I wish they would have written a new one or put one of their unreleased songs in place of heavy soul. I don't see the need for a 4 song EP to feature two songs previouse released. If they had done something else other than heavy soul I might give this 5 stars. Next the Keys cover the Stooges "No Fun". I enjoy the song and it's a nice cover but it is not as great as the original. And no I'm not going to give it 3 stars because of the length of the album, it's called an EP for a reason people. Overall 4 stars. 2 great songs and 2 good ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your ears will love you... 1 Feb. 2009
By Y. Quinones - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
from the moment you begin listening. The Black Keys are a burst of the best sound in ages. They are nothing but great grinding guitar and the best of drum beats. If you are truly a music lover, you must at least listen to them once in your life, see them once in your life, and buy this album! "The Moan" comes in nice and easy and builds up to where, even though it might sound chessy, you're body will be moaning from the pleasure it delivers. Dan Auerbach's voice is honestly one of the better male blues voices out there. "Heavy Soul" is a song we are reintroduced to and does it sound better than ever: more livelier if you ask me. "No Fun" is definitely lots of fun to listen to. "Have Love Will Travel" is also very very very awesome... it makes you think you are sounding to something straight from 40 years ago when the intro first kicks in. I swear, I can't put my finger on it, but this one is definitely inspired by some great rock of 40 years ago. Yes I know this is a cover, but I do not think it sounds like the covers as much as whatever song it is I am thinking of. My advice... GET THIS ALBUM!

Great short album. Gritty, ballsy, bluesy. I'm in love. This one sounds like it was recorded in a garage and it works beautifully. Buy it.

This is the Black Keys at their best. A perfect combination of rock and blues. This is not a full album but definitely worth it.
