4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting history 13 Oct. 2014
By S. A. Lambert - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Fascinating and well-researched history of the changing role of the mistress throughout the ages. Detailed and intimate bios of well-known (and not so well-known) mistresses, from early history (Cleopatra) to our day (Camilla Parker-Bowles and Pamela Harriman). Historical facts are detailed and documented. Chapters are arranged by broad subject area (gangster molls, Hollywood stars, etc.). Chapter conclusions hammer the feminist perspective home, but they are too heavy-handed and tend to be repetitive.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very insightful! 29 Oct. 2016

This is a very well written, detailed book. I like the way she gave insight to the mistress not a lot of books credit them they way this author does. And the historic material makes you want to keep reading to learn more. Great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it! 31 Mar. 2012
By BrendaMT - Published on Amazon.com

I really loved this book. From start to finish, I wasn't able to put it down. I really enjoyed the biographies of the "other women" and the women's history that is usually not talked about. Definately a great addition to my growing collection of women's history.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! 6 Aug. 2013
By Adia Kamaria - Published on Amazon.com

I didn't know what to expect from this book. Once I started reading I was glued to it. This book is just as much a history of women's struggles as it as about mistresses. The stories are told from an objective point of view and never come across as judgemental of the woman it is focused on.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected 11 Feb. 2014

Not really what I was expecting. Having just read the book Sex with Kings, I was hoping that it would fall more into that category and it just did not. Although it was well written and focused on mistresses spanning all cultures and times I had picked this book hoping that it was more era and area specific.
