Product Description

Review

So, what do I love most about Mister Finch? Perhaps it is his quiet working away in his studio, like a puppet maker. Perhaps it is the stories tied tight in the minds of his sleeping creatures. Perhaps it is the way he walks towards a darker dreaming but always with beauty. Perhaps it is his ability to give away nothing about himself while sharing not only his work but the work of people who make him smile. His generosity of mind and spirit. Perhaps. Swans, hares, foxes, dreaming, moths. We have much in common and yet so different. --Jackie Morris, Jackie Morris Blog "April 3, 2015 "

About the Author

Mister Finch, is an exquisite craftsman and textile artist living in Yorkshire England. Aside from a single art class he took years ago, Finch is entirely self-taught, having discovered his passion for sewing after dabbling in a number of different media. From ruffle-winged birds to glassy-eyed hares, Finch is known and loved around the world for his enchanting, fairytale-inspired creatures. He works alone in his cosy, plant-filled studio, sewing each inimitable piece by hand, not far from the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. A freelance writer and photographer, Justine Hand writes about life, art and design on her blog, designskool.net. She is also a contributing editor for Remodelista.com and Gardenista.com, where she covers emerging talent and New England style. The mother of two imaginative, young children (who often assist her in her creative work), she and her family split their time between Newton, MA and Cape Cod. Justine Hand is a New England native and historic house buff. She writes the design blog 'Design Skool,' founded on the belief that 'your home should reflect your story, your history, your heritage.' Justine lives in Newton where she is working to restore her own historic home.

I'd give this beautiful book 10 stars if I could. The photography in it is exquisite, in fact, the whole book is truly classy. I have to say that I am a real Mister Finch fan and have been for some time so when I saw this book was to come out I just HAD to preorder it and, delight of delights, it actually was released early. The illustrations do justice to his beautiful, talented work and I am so pleased I bought it. Well worth the money and the wait. Thank you Mister Finch.

Absolutely gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous book, full of beautiful photographs that really capture the detail and Grimm fairytale eerieness of Mister Finch's work....from embroidered and needlepoint moths and butterflies, to oversize hares and sleeping foxes, heartbreakingly fragile looking birds to breathtakingly beautiful fungi and flora, this book covers all areas of Mister Finch's work .....looking through it reminded me of when I was small and would lose myself for hours in the world of Perrault and Grimm......losing oneself in the word of Mister Finch is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.....this book is not only a fantastic treat for the eyes, but it's also a wonderful source of inspiration......I'll never look at an old and tatty piece of embroidery or vintage fabrics again.

This book is magical. It's been a very long time since I bought a book that inspired me in the way Mister Finch's book has. I hope this is the first of many titles from him. It's such a treasure that I've used the last of my vintage bookplates in the front endpapers!

The images and page layouts are beautiful. I only have one tiny gripe: someone needed to proofread a little bit more carefully! You won't notice this, because you'll be so swept away by Mister Finch's craftsmanship, but there are a few typos that the publisher should iron on in the next print run, e.g. "M name is Finch". Editorial errors aside though, I adore this book and I really hope he's going to publish more soon.

A beautifully bound book full of photos of Mr Finch's inspirational pieces of work. It is left out on a side table where the cover of the book tempts people to open it and become lost in another world.

Mister Finch is a rarity today - his work is original, elegant, interesting, creative and so endearing. Every work is exquisitely created and his book showcases an incredible variety of his stunning works. His imagination is amazing, and the mix of fabrics, paints, textures, and life like qualities in every single piece brings such joy as a viewer. The photography is beautifully done, and the text so enlightening (particularly for those of us who are fans of his work). If you are an embroider, lover of another world, love detail, like to paint, enjoy the beauty of nature or just want a good read, then this is a wonderful book for all audiences. My embroidery teacher loves it as well…and we were so excited to receive our copies…a wonderful work and record of such a creative range of work from the delightful Mister Finch. Not to be missed.
