Product description

Product Description

Four great films--one brilliant box set.

Mission: Impossible:
Tom Cruise ignites the screen in this runaway smash hit that "holds you on the edge of your seat before blasting you out of it" (Howard Rosenberg, Los Angeles Times). Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt, a secret agent framed for the deaths of his espionage team. Fleeing from government assassins, breaking into the CIA's most impenetrable vault, clinging to the roof of a speeding bullet train, Hunt races like a burning fuse to stay one step ahead of his pursuers... and draw one step closer to discovering the shocking truth.

Offers German language dubbing and subtitles.

M:I-2
The world's greatest spy returns in M:I-2. Top action director John Woo brings his own brand of excitement to the mission that finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) partnering up with the beautiful Nyah Hall (Thandie Newton) to stop renegade agent Sean Ambrose (Dougray Scott) from releasing a new kind of terror on an unsuspecting world. But before the mission is complete, they'll traverse the globe and have to choose between everything they love and everything they believe in.

Offers German language dubbing and subtitles.

M:I:3
Tom Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt in this pulse-pounding thrill ride directed by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias). Lured back into action by his agency superiors (Laurence Fishburne and Billy Crudup), Ethan faces his deadliest adversary yet - a sadistic weapons dealer named Owen Davian (Oscar® winner Philip Seymour Hoffman). With the support of his IMF team (Ving Rhames, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Maggie Q), Ethan leaps into spectacular adventure from Rome to Shanghai as he races to rescue a captured agent (Keri Russell) and stop Davian from eliminating his next target: Ethan's wife, Julia (Michelle Monaghan).

Offers German language dubbing and subtitles.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
No plan. No backup. No choice. Agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his elite team (Jeremy Renner - The Avengers and Simon Pegg - Star Trek) go underground after a bombing of the Kremlin implicates the IMF as international terrorists. While trying to clear the agency's name, the team uncovers a plot to start a nuclear war. Now, to save the world, they must use every high-tech trick in the book. The mission has never been more real, more dangerous or more impossible.

Offers English audio description, Italian and Castilian Spanish language dubbing and Italian, Castilian Spanish and Dutch subtitles.

There are plenty of reviews here concerning the films and their content, and if you are reading this review then most of you will already be fans of the movies looking to update to Blu-ray. I don't have the DVD's available to compare the qualitative difference of the two mediums and so will confine my comments purely to the quality of the Blu-ray discs as stand-alone products - the box-set as a whole, being greatly let down by films one to three, earning only a 2 star rating overall.
If you are seeking the picture perfection associated with Blu-ray updates, then this collection will disappoint greatly. Mission Impossible, the original and oldest film of the series, as expected shows its age, and the transfer does little to improve things. Soft edges and a lack of detail dates this film giving it a 'retro' look that may appeal to fans of the original movie, but not to those looking for a superior picture. Occasionally close-ups do appear pleasing with moderate detail, but more often than not you are left wondering whether you are in fact watching a DVD and not a Blu-ray. Colour banding is also very much the order of the day in many scenes and particularly noticeable in the sterile white and grey environments of building interiors. In short the film really shows its age and gets a poor transfer to Blu-ray.
MI:2 fares little better, and in many respects is a far inferior transfer to that of its predecessor. With a more recent film you'd expect a better transfer, and occasionally this film does offer fine linear detail, especially on faces. Colours too are far richer this time around, but colour banding is severe from the outset.

M:I - NO HD audio, and DVD quality picture, a massive waste of time. Great film though.
M:I2 - NO HD audio, and ok pic quality. Pretty dismal film.
M:3 NO HD audio, but a pretty good pic quality. Great film.
M:I Ghost Protocol - Hurrah, finally a proper blu ray with HD sound/pic!!

Overall a massive let-down, only one of the films is a real bluray as far as i'm concerned.

The Bluray transfer is of substandard quality on the first 2 movies. More like a DVD print. It is marginally better on the third. The fourth movie is a true bluray quality movie.

Until the release of 'Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol' I had only seen the first film, the two other films in the series somehow passing me by.

Having finally watched the remaining films over a rainy weekend a while back I was struck by just how good the series really is; each entry in the series to date has had its own memorable moments and they are all of a consistently high quality.

This box set contains all four movies to date and it is a worthwhile purchase even if you already own any of the films on standard DVD.

The set contains four discs and they come in a single case; the case is sturdy and the discs on my set were held firmly in place.

The case also has an outer sleeve made from cardboard.

I'll break down the contents of each disc because these vary in quality and quantity.

The films are all very good, the first and the fourth are easily the best. The second and third are not bad. However, the conversion to blu ray was not great on the first two films. The third was okay and the fourth was obviously shot in HD so was very good. Not a bad price at £15 and a nice one to have in your collection.

The quality of these Blu-Rays are excellent but some of the movies aren't. I'm not the biggest Tom Cruise fan, but when I first saw MI 1, I thought that this was quite good because usually I enjoy spy films and books. But I thought that the acting and the concept of this first film was a bit much and certainly over-hyped. MI 2 was a lot better all round and to me, it felt like both the premise and the actors had been reined in a bit. It was a clever concept and the villain this time was far more believable than Jon Voight was. Dougray Scott was more sinister and quietly menacing and although his character was far more violent than I can normally watch, I couldn't look away. In MI 3, the bad guy is played this time the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, an arms dealer who seems to be psychologically unstable and his acting is as superb as usual. But this was also the time when the MI series of movies seemed to fade away for me, and the last one in this set - Ghost Protocol; I had little interest in watching, although I did a little while ago but it did nothing for me (apart from boredom); and it left me thinking that this was 2+ hours of my life I wasn't getting back. Personally, I think that this series of MI movies should've ended with MI 3, and it would've gone out on top. By making MI 4 (and now Rogue Nation) they've spread the concept too thinly and taken it too far, especially with their main star being on the wane.
