Product description

About the Author

Maggie Hall indulges her obsession with distant lands and far-flung adventures as often as she can. She has played with baby tigers in Thailand, learned to make homemade pasta in Italy, and taken thousands of miles of trains through the vibrant countryside of India. In her past life, she was a bookstore events coordinator and marketing manager, and when she's not on the other side of the world, she lives with her husband and their cats in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she watches USC football, dabbles in graphic design, and blogs about young adult literature for YA Misfits.

If you know someone who loves, or loathes, Marmite then this book is the perfect present.Or, if you just love books full of interesting and funny facts buy it for yourself. To say it is crammed with information would be an understatement! There is just so much in here, from the factual (wait til you see how it originated), to the farcical (there's some crazy people out there), - and everything inbetween. You can pick this book up and start anywhere from A to Z to find out something you didn't know. The wealth of info shows just how much Marmite is part of the British psyche and this book does great justice to this loved (or hated) iconic product. I loved it,particularly as it's the sort of book you can dip into again and again, and I have a new respect for that jar in my kitchen cupboard!

LIKE IT OR LUMP IT, MY LOT WILL BE GETTING A COPY OF THIS GEM OF A BOOK IN THEIR STOCKINGS THIS YULETIDE. THE SUBJECT UNDER INSPECTION IS OF COURSE MARMITE, THE CAVIAR-BLACK GLOOP ABOUT WHICH MOST PEOPLE HAVE A VIEW. PERSONALLY I ADORE MARMITE - EVER SINCE IT BECAME AN ESSENTIAL PART OF MY DIET (ALONG WITH TINS OF SPAM AND PACKETS OF JACOBS CREAM CRACKERS) DURING REGULAR VISITS TO CULINARY HOSTILE AREAS OF SOUTHERN THAILAND WHEN I LIVED THERE SOME YEARS AGO. SANDWICHED TOGETHER WITH MARMITE AS THE GLUE, IT WAS A FEAST WHICH PROVIDED MUCH-NEEDED SUSTENANCE FOR A PALATE JADED WITH ALL THINGS FOREIGN. I STILL EAT IT DAILY, SCANTLY SPREAD ON HOT BUTTERED CRUMPETS, WHICH I CAN RECOMMEND HEARTILY. AND THANKS TO MAGGIE HALL`S DELIGHTFUL "MISH- MASH DICTIONARY OF MARMITE.......", I NOW HAVE SOMETHING APPROPRIATE TO READ OVER THE BREAKFAST TABLE, IN THAT LONELY HOUR BEFORE THE PAPERBOY ARRIVES WITH THE MORNING PAPERS. IT`S PACKED WITH NUGGETS OF INFORMATION BOTH FUN AND SERIOUS, WHICH PROVES JUST WHAT SORT OF AN IMPACT MARMITE HAS HAD, AND CONTINUES TO HAVE, ON BRITISH LIVES. AS A BI-PRODUCT IT`S THE SORT OF SUBJECT GUARANTEED TO PEP UP FLAGGING CONVERSATION AT YOUR NEXT DINNER PARTY. LOVE IT OR HATE IT! BY THE WAY DID I TELL YOU I LOVE IT......?
