I'm a fan of Niall's work and this one has all the bits necessary to make for an interesting series.
The use of dragons in human(oid) form is a nice little twist on the magic academy trope, with our heroine desperately trying to hide her true form lest it cause no end of trouble (which of course it does and undoubtedly will do in future). The spoilt little rich girl and her fall from grace are nicely handled - I doubt I'd have been as sympathetic and the way the characters play off against one another is amusing.

Plus as well, there's plenty of sex...... well it is a Niall Teesdale book, what did you expect ? It's not particularly graphic, has a fair amount of humour involved and above all is entirely consenting. Add that to being all-girl and it's a fun read.

My one concern is that the ending did feel a bit rushed, the pacing throughout was nice and steady but the climax felt as though the page count was getting near the top marker and it needed to be wrapped up quickly. Though there are plenty of hints and avenues for future volumes in the series to move on to.

I've enjoyed everything I've read by Niall Teasdale, and this more than most. I'm a fan of lesbian fiction, and this certainly delivered, but that's just one small part of a larger world and strong plot. I note that this is the first Teasdale book I've read that's set in anything other than the real world, or a version of it, and I enjoyed his level of world-building particularly: enough so that I felt immersed, but not drowning the reader in exposition dumps that inform but completely ruin the pacing. This is a very fine balance.
