Top Customer Reviews

By K. Platt TOP 100 REVIEWER on 13 Dec. 2013
Format: Paperback
Contemporary paper and fabric craft with minimalist style. Some projects also use macrame or beads. The projects are well photographed, simple instructions are easy to follow and the projects are very appealing. I love the fabric cushion and toy snake. Projects are graded for ability and you will find projects suitable for all skill levels. Templates are given at the back of the book, but do need to be enlarged. This is a fun book that will appeal to the younger market.

Projects are over a variety of media. It opens with some paper projects including pop-up cards, origami and some fab fruit boxes.

There are also sewing projects such as a funky triangular cushion and a toy snake.

Other projects covered include signs made of Lego, a space invaders Pinata that no boy (or man) would sneer at, pots and earrings made from Hama beads and a section on macrame.

A really lovely selection of projects which could be tackled by older children, but also enjoyed by adults

HASH(0x97239eb8) out of 5 stars Beautiful Projects, Not for the Beginner 1 Nov. 2014
By JK - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I'm a big fan of Kate Lilley's blog, but was a bit disappointed in this book. It's almost more eye-candy than substance. There are plenty of great projects, but it's really light on the directions. If you are a reasonable experienced crafter, you'll be able to figure a lot out just using your knowledge and experience, but if you are a beginner, especially haven't done any origami, you will likely be frustrated with this book. Yes, there are tutorials, but you need to go online to view them which begs the question of why bother with the book. I applaud Ms. Lilley's effort to create a craft book with more sophisticated projects, and maybe they are too involved to try to put into print, but this book misses the mark.

HASH(0x96ea6a50) out of 5 stars Let me google that for you 13 April 2014
By Amy Brown - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Seriously, most of the crafts in here have very little explanation and will require youtube tutorials sought by the reader. The majority use templates but do not explain how you could customize the project. For example, there's a project for pop-up greeting cards, but the only explanation is "Print template, cut on lines, fold on dotted lines". The complicated origami lampshade on the front cover? Good luck making it from the instructions. They also require specific equipment like Spirographs and bead boards-- if you already had that equipment, these projects would likely have been included already.

I got suckered into buying this because the graphics were so good-- the author is a graphic designer, and most of these projects are likely prettied-up versions of a popular Pinterest board. I should have flipped through more to see how shallow the instruction was. Shame on me for not doing my due diligence, but this really is a stinker of a craft book. It's low-skill-level enough that anyone who would get a kick out of the projects would not be the kind to already have the tools. I'm not sure who the audience is.

I was looking for lots of new ideas, but all I really got was things/projects I could have gotten for free from my Pinterest feed from the author. Save your money.

Loved this book. It showed wonderful projects and the instructions were relatively easy to follow. Great book if you are looking for different crafting projects.
