Neil M Wyatt is an environmentalist, ecologist and a lifelong model maker - he had his first workshop at the age of fourteen. He cut his teeth on Airfix models, but branched out into model boats and aircraft. In his late thirties he discovered a pile of ageing Model Engineer magazines and decided to take up the 'ultimate hobby' - making working things entirely from scratch - and bought a lathe. He is currently Editor of the magazine Model Engineers' Workshop.

Excellent, informative book. A great aid for the beginner or born again machinist in selecting a lathe and associated tools and accessories. Very clear explanations with good photographs of each item being described and all in plain English with no over the top technical terms etc. There's also a section at the end with a couple of projects to do when you get your lathe.

My first book on metalwork with a lathe. This book walks you through the basic principals and doesn't get too technical. Would say that a few more illustrations would be of help as sometimes the photographs don't tell the whole story.
