About the Author
Mojang is a games studio based in Stockholm, Sweden. Mojang was founded in 2009 by Markus “Notch” Persson and Jakob Porser. Markus Persson is also the creator of Mojang’s best-selling game to date: Minecraft. The alpha version of Minecraft was launched in 2009, and the official game went on sale in 2011. Since then over 100 million copies have been sold, across multiple platforms. It is now the second best-selling video game of all time. In 2014, Mojang was bought by Microsoft. The acquisition hasn’t changed much about the company – they still release and support games on multiple platforms, including iOS, Playstation and many more, as well as Windows and Xbox. Mojang plan to keep their independent spirit and continue to treat their community with the respect and honesty it deserves.

It’s a collection of four books previously published separately, and each book has a variety of crafting suggestions, things you didn’t know were possible, as well as some very ambitious-looking projects that are properly inspiring in terms of wanting to spend more and more time exploring the game (for better or worse!). The exploration and farming books are the ones that got the most attention in our household at first, which is quite gratifying. The End & The Nether are still regarded as ‘too scary’ but I don’t think it’ll be too long before the Enchantments & Potions book turns our daughter into a budding chemist, or more accurately alchemist depending on how you look at it...
The fact she’s so keen on the game even serves as an incentive for her to practice her reading as well, because she will happily grab one of these and make herself read it, even some of the longer words she would normally struggle with, because she’s so engaged with it. So as an almost accidental bonus, I’d even call it educational!
The print quality is good and the illustrations are all nice and clear, high quality design that’s up there with Lego and other companies that get their print design right. In its special box, it’s well presented as a potential Christmas gift as well.
If I had just one gripe, it would be that for what you get, the current asking price of over twenty quid is a little steep in terms of total-cost-per-page. A single volume containing all the same information would have been priced more cheaply for sure. And this is the kind of pack that does tend to show up in certain high street discount book stores a year or two down the line, and it will probably represent better value then! But apart from a (fairly mild) gripe about the cost, this is an absolutely great set for Minecraft fans, especially young ones and newbies, so it’s 5 stars nonetheless.
This set has Enchantments and potions, farming, nether and the end, and exploration.
I'm reliably informed by our resident minecraft enthusiast and 7 year old that it's the same exploration book in both boxes, so be aware of that.
Otherwise, this is a very good gift for the minecraft fan; each book is well worth the money, we've reviewed I think all of them previously as individual books, so if you don't want the duplication you can just buy the books you need, but the bonus with this set is the cardboard outer sleeve which is durable, our last one with the other box set has stood the test of time and the abuses that come with it.
Worth mentioning that the paperbacks and the hardbacks have the same content. And also worth mentioning that I think there's about eight of these books out (PVP minigames isn't in either box set) and another one coming in january if I'm not mistaken...redstone circuits according to the expert.
Overall two thumbs up, you can't go wrong with the official mojang books, you really can't.
I have come across some of these books before in my time and Mojang do a fantastic job for their fans. The books are full colour and packed to the gunnels with information on how to be a better crafter. Titles cover exploration, farming, potions and more. They are best for the newer player and a lot of the information you will pick up just by playing the game enough. What you get here is an accessible entry point.
As mentioned these books have been around individually for some time so a fan who has played the game a lot already may already have one or two of them. The pack is designed for the gamer you know who has just started to really delve deep into Minecraft. If they do not own these books already they are in for a treat as are high quality and Mojang do a fantastic job of talking directly to the fans.
