My Mind’s Eye is book #1 in the Pub Fiction series and the first book I have read by this author, I was gifted a copy of the book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

This book is wordy, that might sound like a ridiculous statement but it’s very true…. This book is super wordy.

The version I read was an ARC and as such might not be the final version. But it was in places very long winded and used 100 words to say something that could have been said in 20.

Personally I was on the fence about Kat, she was either ridiculously innocent or a massive game player and I honestly can decide which it is!!

Kat has a lot of issues including some mental health concerns, that isn’t why I’m unsure about her. My problem with Kat is that she is so hot and cold, poor Ryker is so terrified of her weak nature and nervous disposition to take a risk with her!!

Now Ryker I absolutely adored, he’s cocky and a bit of a k*ob at times but he’s smitten by Kat. Ryker is a tiny bit alpha and that was hot as hell!!!

The sex is HOT!!! Kat and Ryker definitely have serious sexual chemistry.

Ryker does get a bit pussy whipped by the end but to compensate the author makes him a real dirty talker and that totally worked for me!!

The writing style settles the further into the book you go; I loved the filthy, sexy playful conversations between Kat and Ryker in the second half of the book.

This book was a nice easy read though a little wordy and long winded for my taste.

My Mind’s Eye gets 3.5 stars from me

Gifted for an honest review – 3 ½ to 4 stars
Debut novel from author Gillian Jones and I have to say I was quite impressed. It wasn’t without its faults for sure but it’s definitely worth a read and I have no problem reading more from this author. Gillian gives us Ryker and Kat, two strong characters who struggle with their attraction to one another. They try to stay out of each other’s way but honestly, you can see it’s a losing battle. The attraction between them is off the charts.
At first I really struggled to get into this, I felt the first 15 percent or so was long winded and slow, it felt like filler to pad out the story and I found it harboured a lot of unnecessary information. I worried that I wouldn’t get past that initial feeling and hoped it would pick up its pace. Well, it did and quite wonderfully. At that 15 percent mark we get Rykers pov and if you didn’t already know, this is how I like to read my books. Dual pov, I like to be in the head of both characters. I wasn’t sure if I could cope with just being in Kats.
Both characters have been burned in the past and are reluctant to take that plunge, and they try to stay out of each other’s way. I liked Ryker more than I did Kat but boy did that guy frustrate me no end. It felt like a bit of a cat and mouse game at times, and that growl. Damn, that was quite hot! What I did really, really like was the slow build up that Gillian managed to encapsulate well. It’s a kind of insta love story but then again it isn’t. It’s hard to explain. It’s hot and steamy in places yet other times it’s so sickly sweet it could be quite churning.
I was not a fan of the title or the cover in all truthfulness, I don’t think either captured the story so well but I did enjoy the flair with which Gillian writes. I’m looking forward to this authors next offering, congratulations on a really great debut.

I received a free copy for an honest review

So I was really looking forward to reading this – I mean who doesn’t love an alpha manwh**e who drops his bad boy ways to get the girl? And I have to say I was not disappointed!

Kat hasn’t had an easy start. After a horrific event she’s constantly on high alert and with the support of her bestfriend is trying to move on. Coming back to campus early they both get new jobs at a local bar hoping to earn some extra cash, she just wasn’t betting on her hot co-worker.

Ryker is a typical player, a true Mr One Night Only kind of guy. In fact there are message jars on the bar where he works for the girls to put their details in – the bar his brother just so happens to run. When his brother asks him to help train the newbies he wasn’t counting on the hot new shot girl who steals his ability to speak. Only able to growl at her he doesn’t make a good first impression.

Now faced with working with an incredibly hot a**hole who not only doesn’t speak to her but also seems to hate her Kat tries her best to avoid him at all costs – little does she know that Ryker feels quite the opposite. When they are finally able to talk and get to know each other their chemistry is undeniable but will Ryker be able to give up his bad boy ways and will Kat let go of her fears and let him in?

This was a great read which was so different to your typical college romance novels. Really enjoyed reading about Kat and Ryker’s journey and I loved the secondary characters too! I hope to see more from them! Can’t wait for more from this author :)
