The other two reviewers are missing the point with this book! The clue is in the title! Yes, its obvious that is about philosophical background to the principles of the practice: hence 'heavy' reading. Meaning: perspective: change.
If you want to have a better understanding of the roots and meaning behind the practice then look no further (supported also by many evidence based journal articles and research). If you want to be spoon fed and have a instant coffee attitude to the practice then you obviously don't get it in the first place!

This is a MUST if you're teaching Mindfulness-based Interventions, and I have heard Jon Kabat-Zinn recommend this book on several occasions. It will give you a thorough understanding of the Dhamma/buddhist psychology behind MBSR/MBCT etc. One way to work with the articles is to use it in your sangha/supervision group, if you have one.

Having read 'Mindfulness - Finding peace in a frantic world' by the same author, I wanted to find out more about mindfulness from a psychological (rather than self-help) point of view. This book is a collection of papers presenting a very diverse set of perspectives on the topic. Some of these papers were exactly what I was looking for, while others were focused more on applications and the Buddhist foundations of the subject. Although there was some variation in quality, I enjoyed the variety and nearly all of the contributions were interesting. I think it is a very good starting point if you want to find out more about this subject

This is a fantastic collection of essays about the wider context and practice of "mindfulness" as it derives from the Buddhist tradition of practice. As a practicing Buddhist and trainee therapist, this is a fascinating area of study for me. The book *is* written from a rather academic perspective, so not all of it is very "easy" reading - but definitely recommended for undergraduate level and upwards, or for readers who don't mind a bit of intellectual depth.

I found this book good but heavy going.
it's only good for you if you are interested in the theory and research of Mindfulness practice.
