I've read heaps of SH books in my time, so I'm not new to this sort of thing, but somehow I found this book completely uninspiring. Now it could be that it's not really a "kindle" type of book : perhaps it lends itself more to dipping in and out, but I have to say how I feel about it and how I read it, so I am very sorry Mr Hassed, but for me, not a good buy!

I recently completed an on-line training course in mindfulness which was delivered by Dr Craig Hassed (one of the authors) and decided to buy this book to back up my studies. It is a practical resource backed by the author's research in the field of mindfulness, and yes, I believe it can change people's lives for the better. At the end of each section are "take home tips" which I felt provided good summaries and practical advice. I can also recommend "Mindful Learning" by Dr Craig Hassed and Dr Richard Chambers.

This book is not all that bad, though it is rather superficial in places and I found its talky style annoying a lot of the time. But if you want to read about mindfulness, the must-read book is Jonathan Kabat-Zinn's Full Catastrophe Living.

I had the pleasure of meeting Craig Hassed at a multiple sclerosis conference. At the conference he spoke about mindfulness and its uses. I was very impressed and decided to read his book.

I was blown away by the book. It is insightful and backed up by loads of medical studies and facts.

I was impressed by the clarity of description, and how other lines of reading were offered e.g. Elllen Langer's book on Mindfulness that I hadn't heard of before and who doesn't subscribe to formal meditation. Most, if not all, of the academics who write about mindfulness that I have read, agree on the basics and describe them in lots of different ways that probably resonate with a section of the readers and thus probably reach a wide audience. This book hits a lot of targets.

This was a very useful introduction to the subject but the writing style, whilst probably intended to be accessible, was condescendingly dumbed down. Nevertheless it covered a wide area and certainly conveyed the sense that this is potentially a life changing activity. However, it didn't actually tell you how to go about undertaking mindfulness - maybe it's just not for beginners. Definitely not a user's guide of the title but I will be reading more on the subject.
