Thanks to Rob Gretton's label and getting them back to putting the funk into punk and both Up In Downsville & Change Station reflect this. After so many years they finally went into the studio and A Mind Made Up is ACR being influenced by ACR!
Taking their early echoing basslines and jagged guitars and putting them over some amazing percussion, A Mind Made Up show that after all these years they possess a creative drive. A classic album that deserves to be heard.
Now it's 2014 and still no follow up.... C'mon on ACR!
Also recommended is Jez Kerr's Numb Mouth Eat Waste. Taking it's root in early MCR post punk.
I Feel Light with its Curtis-esque vocals is the auditory equivalent to Howard Hodgkin's `Rain'. Down, Down, Down is funky through and through. Everything Is Good is the best track with the best intro, the best drums, bass and guitar, a nostalgic New Order type synth at the beginning only, two repeats of unnecessary swearing and lots of other cool bits and pieces later on. Way to Escape has the funkiest guitar, and some vocals that require a good night's sleep. Rialto 2006, shows just what a great voice Denise Johnson has got, and wouldn't be out of place in a Bond movie (as wouldn't Mind Made Up) with it's dour minor key `music traces, my heart falling' brass riff throughout. The title track succeeds with spacey samples, Doobie Brothers guitar, funky bass and more funky bass. Teri (should it be called Teri?) is an uplifting nod to the ACR of the 80s with a very catchy keyboard and a near anthemic chorus.Read more ›

Got a cheap second hand copy. Pleased after two listens - some good songs; very reminiscent of New Order in places.Published 7 months ago by Mr. D. G. Medley
Whilst not a particularly bad album it's certainly not one I would associate with ACR as it features little of their trademark sound. Read morePublished on 1 May 2012 by Frank Chickens
