Perfection! I just loved this. Having read Kindt's "Revolver" and enjoying it very much, the plot summary of this book had me anxious to read. A bit hard to pinpoint a genre to it but I suppose it falls under paranormal though its main theme covers espionage/spies/secret agents, that sort of thing. A riveting read that kept me spellbound for the entire journey and I'm so excited that this is just Volume 1. What the heck can happen next?! Meru, a successful author of a debut true-crime book, is the main character but she has amnesia that goes back two years, when her memories start, and hasn't written a word since. This is the character we follow throughout the book as we meet many more strange and mysterious people she becomes wrapped up in the secret, dangerous world of the organization called Mind Management. It is a roller coaster of a ride which reads an awful lot like a spy thriller in the vein of the Bourne Identity with the added strangeness of the unknown and special powers of the agents. A perfect read for fans of Lost or those who don't mind an X-Files element in their thrillers. A fun bonus at the end of the book is three short stories which take place prior to the events of book, giving the reader some background information on characters and plot. Loved it! And Kindt's watercolour artwork is too gorgeous not to call special attention to as well.

Meru, is a true crime novelist, struggling to find the subject for another book. Immortals, capable of surviving nearly anything start to pursue her. News stories of an amnesiac flight draw her into a dangerous quest. Dolphins may help to lead her to the answer, if only she can survive long enough.

Matt Kindt writes and draws, with the artwork being at once childlike but functional, almost medieval in style. Graphic novels seldom arrive so packed with acrostics and other hidden features, this is a book that repays careful reading and re-reading. Matt has already written a variety of standalone graphic novels but he has excelled himself with this imaginative roller coaster ride of a graphic novel.

This is the first stage in an unfolding and compelling story of people who have developed their powers of mental manipulation such that they can affect themselves, others, physical matter, perception, reality itself, highly recommended.

I'm very selective with the graphic novels I read, generally speaking, give me a novel any day of the week. Every now and again though, a graphic novel comes along that simply grabs you, draws you in and demands your attention - you know the ones: sandman, preacher, y the last man, locke and key. Mind mgmt is absolutely on par with those. It's a challenging and thought provoking read, a complex story that makes you think and stays with you long after you've finished.

Funnily enough, the one thing that initially put me off was the artwork. I opened the book, read the introduction by damen lindelof, and thought it sounded great. I then saw the art and was immediately disappointed - for whatever reason at the time though, I still bought it. I've now just finished book 3 and funnily enough, I love the art - it's hard to describe, but somehow fits the story perfectly - so much so I have just spent several hundred dollars ordering some original artwork from the author - now that really is mind mgmt!

I'm not a fan of the artwork, but the story is great. A mature story and characters you can really empathise with.
