Top Customer Reviews

By Peter Uys HALL OF FAMETOP 500 REVIEWER on 14 Dec. 2001
Format: Paperback
I have found Dr Sahelian's books on Creatine, DHEA and Pregnenolone very useful, and this one is no exception. He discusses brain function and chemistry and how it relates to nutrition, and provides information on how to improve your mind through lifestyle factors. This is followed by detailed explanations of how supplements work, supported by research findings, under the categories Memory Boosters, Mood & Energy Lifters, Methyl Donors, Keeping Your Brain Young With Antioxidants, Mind Energizers, Amino Acids, Brain Hormones, and Psychoactive Herbs. There are extensive mind-boosting programmes for the age groups 25 - 40, 41 - 60 and for age 61 and over. The last chapter provides natural prescriptions for depression, vision enhancement, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. This well-researched, well-written book is rounded off with a glossary, bibliography and references plus a thorough index. It is the most complete and authoritative book of its kind and also a pleasure to read. I would have liked to find more information on Deprenyl, but it is a drug - not a natural supplement - and thus outside the scope of this book. Similar informative books that deal with nutritional supplementation include William Regelson's "The Superhormone Promise" and Timothy J Smith's "Renewal." Mind Boosters however, remains the best overall reference book on cutting-edge nutrition for a healthy mind.

This is the best book I've ever read on the use of vitamin and herbal supplements to improve mood, cognition, and perception. It also has useful sections on possible treatments for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Unlike many books in this area, this one is based on science. Everything is given an explanation . The book also acts as a nice little introduction to psychopharmacology. Unlike many authors in this area, Sahelian does not recommend that your rush out and buy every vitaming going. Buying this book will probably save you money - it has already repaid its cover price for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars I received a very prompt and easy refund from the seller 4 Jun. 2017

I returned this book for a refund because it was damaged. I received a quick and easy refund - and I had no troubles at all with the seller. Many thanks to the seller for that. It seems unfair of me to give a neutral review, but that's because I didn't read (or keep) the book and I can't comment on the book itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful for mood enhancement and depression! :-) 20 Jun. 2013
By jjj - Published on Amazon.com

The supplemental regimen for mood enhancement significantly alleviated my depression the first day I tried it. This book clearly explains and diagrams the bio-chemical pathways that lead to greater production of serotonin, melatonin, dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine, (which are the neurotransmitters essential for mood, alertness, emotional balance, among other desirable qualities) via various vitamins, amino acids, and herbal supplements. Dr. Sahelian also explains how to keep the brain healthy throughout life with comprehensive nutritional and supplemental plans that cover cognitive functioning, vision, hearing, hormonal health, quality of life, and various diseases. This was the best book on brain nutrients that I have ever read. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, many simple good answers for memory improvement 1 July 2014
By joe4sky - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The is a great book for any older person who is having any problems with thinking or memory. Dr. Sahelian made the discription of problems as simple as possible, and the answers simple as can be, with good examples, to help pick which suplement to try first. He tried most products, so he could let you know how much to take, great idea. I tried several things, most worked, some were amazing how well they worked, a few did nothing. Overall I got a huge increase in my memory and thinking ability. I told my friends and they also got good results. Get the book, and start trying the suplements, and think better, and have better memory.
