Product description

Product Description

New collection of B-sides & a few new songs. Includes a crooning lounge version of "Scooby Snacks".

Amazon.co.uk

It's widely accepted in this country that Americans have no sense of irony: Alanis Morissette neatly summed this up in her famously un-ironic hunt for a knife amidst all those spoons in her hit "Ironic" (although, in fairness, she is Canadian). American indie-rap trio Fun Lovin' Criminals, however, seem to have a firm grasp on pop's love of irony on their latest release, Mimosa, a collection of smooth (sorry, that's "Schmoove") cover versions, alternate takes and B-sides that's completely infused with the faint whiff of cheese. Their love of the whole gangster myth seems to have taken them into lounge territory; these are songs that would feel more at home in the sheen of a Vegas nightclub than the grit of a New York alleyway. It's obvious that they're going for a Sinatra vibe with this collection--no simple task--and it's to their credit that it almost works: Huey, their singer, is after all one of the coolest men on the planet (really, it's well documented). Their new version of "Bombin' The L" is awash with bongos, harmonicas and a wah-wah guitar, and their cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train" is amusing for a few listens. Mimosa is not a particularly good collection of songs; it's therefore rather ironic that it's so enjoyable. --Robert Burrow
