Good book on a rather esoteric topic. Covers the exploits of subscription warships broken down by city of origin. Well written.

Only quibble is I wanted more information on the practise of subscription warships and not so much on their expliots. The exploits are easy to read about and covered eleswhere. The practice of civilians building ships and loaning/selling them to the governemt is what I find interesting. There is some information on the origin of this idea and some information of the mechanics of it. What I wanted was a book which covered those aspects in detail and tracing the origin into the past. Also interested in how the practice evolved, it's legal impplications etc.

Guess that's more then a quibble.

A very informative book cover a period of U.S. that is often glossed over.
