Her background as a former professional journalist and entrepreneur show through from the start and continue throughout the book. At no point does she sell the notion that blogging is a magic potion, indeed she stresses that to be successful you have to treat it like a business.
Another reviewer made the point that some of the resources Natasha recommends cost money, well that's the case in any almost any business, and if you're seriously looking to build a blog which creates an opportunity to make money you will be recouping your outlay fairly quickly assuming you put the effort in.
Whether you're looking to start from scratch or to increase your profile for an existing business then the numerous stories from such blogging luminaries as Seth Godin and Emma Jones will inspire you. Taking just one example, Elegant Themes (page 54) who detail the outcome of their blogging strategy for 2015, they show that consistent effort really does pay off. By posting 365 pieces of good quality content they received 12.8 million page views for the year (there will be more page views for that same content of course through this year and onwards). Did happen over night? No, but the results show what can be achieved by making the effort. And if you only receive 10% of those page views what would it do for your business?
I highly recommend if you're looking to get started in the blogging world (blogosphere!) or wanting to get your existing business in front of more people you order a copy, read it and take action.
If your interested in turning those passions into a profitable business I suggest you invest in yourself like I did.
I am on my way to greatness not because I read this, but beacuse I actioned this.
The great thing about Natasha, having also seen her talk at a conference, is that she walks the walk as well as talks the talk, and that shows through.
The book starts by encouraging everyone to blog. It then goes on to discuss the best way to prepare for this new adventure. It covers content, branding, the importance of aesthetics, and of finding a niche that allows the creator to be enthusiastic about their subject whilst remaining authentically themselves.
“Every blogger interviewed for this book has talked about the importance of authenticity and of the reader’s uncanny ability to see through a blogger who’s just in it for a fast buck and not committed to offering real entertainment value and information.”
Despite the title, there is acknowledgement that creating and maintaining a financially successful blog takes time, support and hard work.
Interspersed within the narrative are numerous tales of successful bloggers who achieve hundreds of thousands of hits and earn staggering sums, although often from more than just blogging. They are also motivational speakers, run training courses, produce video guides, paid for digital content, and books such as this one. Blogging is a part of what they do but it is not the whole story.
There is some discussion about content and the alleged short attention span of many readers. Quality writing, it seems, is not the route to a successful blog.
“Whether content is good is entirely subjective.Read more ›
"The Million Dollar Blog" is extremely well organized, richly documented and paced just right to inspire and motivate you to take a leap into this amazing world of blogging. It is full of success stories that illustrate well how blogging can be a full fledged career or, in the case of any business, THE way to structure your sales activity. Ignore this reality at your own risk. If you choose to hop on the train, this book is a very useful reading (I was actually going to write "mandatory", which is closer to what I think).
