The Animal Kingdom Colouring booked arrived yesterday from Amazon and it did not disappoint. I am new to adult colouring books and thought I would give it a go seeing as I have a stressful job and basically wanted something to take my mind off work, plus also obtain the feeling that I had achieved something worthwhile and this has really hit the nail on the head. The designs are beautiful and intricate and can by no means be rushed. In approximately 4 hours I had only coloured in approximately one fifth of the design but the results were so satisfying, and my picture now is really coming to life. It is a totally engrossing hobby, and even being a smoker - I did not touch a cigarette during the whole time I was occupied with my colouring in, let alone making a tea or coffee. To go with the book, I purchased 72 oil based coloured pencils. These have worked well - but I can now see the real advantages of using fine tipped pens for absolute precision. The quality of the paper is also good and easy to work with. So my verdict - this is a fantastic stress reliever - you seem to enter a new world where you are very focused and peaceful. If you are a results driven individual like myself, seeing the picture emerge in front of your eyes is very satisfying in every sense. Attention to detail is key and if you take your time, the results are crisp and eye catching. Although I need far more practice as I know there are many talented individuals out there, my first attempt has been included in the attached photo. I would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely book which is so reasonably priced and will last a fair time.

This is my first "grown-up" colouring book and I am loving it. I haven't coloured since childhood but am thoroughly enjoying it now - it is the best relaxation therapy ever. The pictures are lovely, though there are a few with large insects and moth type things which I am quite phobic about, hence four stars and not five. I invested £20 in a 30 pack of Staedtler Triplus fineliner pens for this book, as some of the pictures have parts far too intricate to colour with pens any thicker. The fineliners are only 0.3 mm tip - my existing 1mm tipped pens were absolutely no use for a lot of the parts in this book. The fineliners are fantastic for the job and come in an excellent range of colours. I think someone wrote that their pens "bled" in this paper, I've only noticed that if I apply one colour of ink on top of another. Clearly any ink will bleed though to at least a tiny extent, so you just start your colouring a tiny fraction inside the outline and it's fine. I don't have as much imagination with colour as some here clearly have and I do wish the book had suggestion pictures for colour schemes to use, etc, or perhaps had like a paint by numbers guide which can be used if wanted. I have completed my first two pictures (have a few more on the go), and though not as good as a lot here, I'm happy for a first attempt. :) Great value - buy it!

This is a fabulous book, beautiful designs. However I bought my first copy months ago which had beautiful thick white paper. The copy I received today however had yellow thin cheap paper. Why the change? Have returned.

This review is taken from my blog where I review adult colouring books from a mental health perspective [...]

This book is from my personal collection. This book is just stunning and packed full of wonderful images of animals and flowers which are my favourite things to colour. Millie has a really unique style of illustrating and while I’ve seen many books and magazines cropping up that attempt to somewhat recreate her style, in my view, they all fall short in comparison to Millie’s beautiful original creations. This is so much more than a colouring book, it is a true work of art!

Paper quality is a little difficult to judge because the book has been printed so many times that they have used a number of different types and qualities of paper for printing. I ordered my copy at the beginning of 2015 and mine has yellowy/cream thick paper that has visible texture to it, it’s lovely and thick and has had no issues with bleeding despite using my Stabilo .88 fineliners which are often the nemesis of adult colouring books. However, I was very disappointed when in May I ordered a second copy for my mum to use in hospital after an operation and realised that despite it coming with beautiful, bright white paper, this was actually thinner and her fineliners bled badly ruining the images on the back of each page she coloured. From what I’ve seen in Facebook colouring groups and recent Amazon reviews this problem has been rectified and the paper is now white, thick, with no issues with bleeding but I cannot guarantee this as I’ve not got the most recently printed copy.

The images in this book are printed double-sided which is not an issue in copies with the decent paper quality.
