This was recomended to me by a very good friend of mine from Peru and I must confess to watching it simply to humour him. How glad I was that he let me know of its existance. South America has been coming up with some very fine films recently and this is among the best. Do not expect something as frenetic as City of God however, this is a moving and poetic film about how we each try to get by in life. Yes it deals with themes from Perus past but to me it said more about how each individual struggles to come to terms with life itself and is therefore relevant to us all. But most striking is the subtle and gentle way that the film gets to you, from is quiet opening to the stunning beauty of its conclusion. If you are someone who can sit through a film without having to have an explosion every five minutes then watch it as it will touch your heart.

A slow but beautifully shot and quite moving film tackling some very complex issues about Peru's past through a young woman trying to live her life in the present but traumatised by events in her beloved mothers life. Well worth watching

Interesting Peruvian films, there were actually two movies in the case. Good to know about social differences, conflict trauma and cultures clash in South America.
