Other than that this is a great compilation. I do wish compliers would tell us punters what the various versions/mixes actually are though rather than leaving us to work it all out from the track lengths (and it'd also be helpful if the advertised track lengths on the booklet were actually accurate - all of them are wrong even if only be a few seconds!)
So - for those of you looking for the details of what versions are actually here: having compared the songs on this CD track by track with my vinyl 12" and album copies where I have them, what you get is:
'Dance (Disco Heat)' this is the UK 12" version/2nd US 12" version (the 1st US 12" and the album version is only 5:54 long). This is the main reason I bought this CD - AFAIK it's the first time the full length 12" version of 'Dance' has been available on CD - all other CD versions I have of the so-called 12" version fade out early.
'Stars' is the US 12" version (the UK 12" version is only 8:40 long)
'Can't Stop Dancing' is the US 12" version (AFAIK it wasn't released on 12" in the UK)
'Changes' is the album version
'I Need Somebody to Love Tonight' is the album version (the version on the b-side of the UK 12" of 'I Who Have Nothing' is only 4:54 long)
'Sell My Soul' is an oddity - it's the same length as the version on some previous Sylvester compilations but the album version is 6:39 and the US promo 12" version is 8:18.Read more ›
Track one is a remix of mighty real and it SUCKS, thankfully the original 12" is on here too, my other fav track is the Patrick Cowley penned I need somebody to love tonight, Thinking this track was made in the 70's is hard to believe ! it sounds so modern, it's like ambient chilled house and it's so mornful as Sylvester singings about being lonely and just needing someone to cuddle, hug with, anyone who's every been here will know what the man is singing about.
However, if any disappointment is the remix You make me feel mighty real.
Thankfully, it's track one and so I tend to avoid the damage done to the original track which is a standout classic in its own.
Still dosent stop me rating the album 5 stars, as the rest is magnificent
although this does not have do you wanna funk and sex.
presumably because these were both on different labels.
Sylvester should have an ultimate best of!
