Just when you thought the brilliant Giles Kristian had... the Viking crown for good, along comes another fine contender for the throne... Engrossing, spellbinding, A Mighty Dawn is exactly that. -- Jon Wise Brun has a knack for describing combat... Very much in the vein of Bernard Cornwell's Warrior Chronicles, a warrior's battles are never done, at least, not whilst he still possesses the strength to swing his sword. -- Bookbag [The first of a] very fine historical, fantasy series -- Nudge A truly impressive debut that hints at a much larger story still left to be told. This novel has the potential to be an epic tale to rival the sagas of the ages. -- The Eloquent Page Weaving together history, fantasy and myth like the Norns twining the threads of fate in A Mighty Dawn, Brun has created an excellent debut and a top quality read. -- The Tattooed Book Geek
A gripping and brilliantly realized debut epic adventure set in eighth-century Denmark. This is the beginning of an ambitious new series in the vein of George R.R. Martin's A Game of Thrones.See all Product description

With echoes of Beowulf, Shakespeare, Wagner, and Tolkien, the carefully constructed characters and their individual stories are woven together in a kaleidoscope of drama, action, tragedy and redemption. All of this is set against a rich knowledge of the historical and archeological background of early 8th century Scandinavia. The story brings to life a time during the Dark Ages when ancient and emerging cultures were colliding. Much of the context may be new and unfamiliar, but it remains completely compelling as we are bound to the fates of Erlan and Lilla and where they will take us.
If you like a story written with the pace and intricacy of George RR Martin, the elegance and depth of Steinbeck, and the imagination and reverence of CS Lewis, then read this book. A cracking debut.
The story becomes increasingly mysterious and mythical and leaves you with plenty of desire to want to know where Hakan will end up....
Next book please....
