When pairing please remember to press the connect button on the base of the mouse the first time you set it up.
The control is incredibly smooth and accurate although it does get erratic when battery is getting low. It has the standard left and right click along with a scroll wheel which has horizontal as well as vertical scrolling (4D). There are two side buttons for additional functions. On a PC you can install the latest intellipoint software which enable programming the buttons to do extra functions such as maginify, become more precise or show open apps - much like expose on Mac.
Pressing the switch mode button allows you to flip it over and use it as a remote. Not only is this good for presentations, this works great with Windows Media Player and iTunes - you can increase/decrease volume, pause and play and skip tracks.
Range for presenter mode is good - about 10ft using built-in bluetooth or 20-30ft using the dongle. In mouse mode I've used it at about 2-3meters ok but not had any reason to use it at a greater range.
It's very compact and a joy to use. Comes with protective plastic case which also holds the dongle. On the downside the buttons don't have as positive click to them which can be annoying at first but I've gotten used to it.
I've tried my Logitech MX5000 keyboard and mouse with the bluetooth laptop and they also work very well but the size prohibits the use of it on the road and the logitech mouse seemed to work on less surfaces than the Microsoft Notebook Presenter 8000.
Would highly recommend. However, as with all bluetooth based devices there is a slight pause from when you first turn on the mouse before you can actually use it while it's detected. If that is annoying to you and you want instant response - go corded.
For those two tasks there is no better mouse.
A previous post talked about problems with the mouse not being accurate, but if you install the software that comes with the mouse you are able to adjust this information as it helps with battery life. Not everyone needs a perfect, accurate, fast feedback mouse all the time, so you can trade up between that and battery life. Personally I have mine on highest accuracy and it works perfect.
The mouse does however come with its own USB Bluetooth adaptor which is fantastic for those that don't already have such a device and also included is a great travel box that is just slightly larger than the mouse itself. The mouse fits perfectly into the case.
The mouse has a button that switches it from mouse mode to presentation mode that stops the normal mouse buttons from working. This is great as you need to flip the mouse upside down to access the presentation options.
Included in the presentation options you have a Play/Pause button, a next page & previous page button, volume up & volume down buttons and of course the laser button.
These buttons are fantastic. There have been times where I sit on my couch with my laptop on my table with headphones plugged in reading a book and I use the mouse to control windows media player. Then of course are the presentation options which mean you can sit back from your laptop and feel more in control. These buttons also work at 10meter distance, while the mouse might start loosing accuracy at half a meter (it's for a laptop, you don't to use it further away), the buttons do work at a greater distance. So you can have your laptop on a table and stand up and run your presentation.
All in all, this is one of the best mice I have ever used. Ideal for a laptops and if you ever run a presentation off one, then this mouse is a must.
The documentation is sparse to put it mildly! There is practically no help is what it does - have a look at some of the reviews on the internet and you'll learn what button does what. Also, it runs great on Vista but you MUST download the latest drivers from Microsoft, rather than install the supplied ones.
The small case is a cracker! If you don't need the dongle, take it out, leave it at home and the space left is a perfect fit for two replacement AAA batteries should you run out. :-)
The default sensitivity is extreme - the mouse speeds around the screen, and even a slight movement of the scroll button makes pages whizz by. Fortunately the sensitivity can be controlled in the latest software in the Control Panel. The scroll button also has lateral movement - move to the left and it will go back a screen in IE, go right and the screen will scroll sideways.
The presentation ability is impressive - including a lasar pointer.
All in all, if you need this functionality, this is a great product and highly recommended.
