Given it only costs £7.99 and is the bottom model in Microsoft's range, I feel it would be harsh to award this two stars, so I'm giving it three stars.

The keyboard is functional, with light touch keys & seems reasonably sturdy (though I haven't had it long)

I also liked the fact it had a PS2 connection, so I didn't have to use one of my USB ports and it was wired (I get fed up with buying batteries)

The function keys to launch Explorer etc are also useful.

However, it lacks the "smooth" feel you get on a really good quality keyboard. The keys do feel cramped and the rear of the keyboard is only about 1cm higher than the front (so they keyboard lies almost flat on your desk)

As I result I wouldn't recommend this for large amounts of typing (especially if you have big hands)

In summary, if you're looking for a cheap keyboard & don't intend to do much typing then this might be fine.

But if you intend to do lots of typing, or want a top quality keyboard then I would look elsewhere.

Surprisingly i bought this keyboard to replace a brandnew wireless Logitec keyboard.A wireless keyboard is fine but unless you invest in one of the very expensive rechargable battery compatible mice to go with your keyboard you will be buying no end of batteries. My logitec keyboard uses AAA batteries which for some reason use little of their power, its the mouse that uses the batteries like nobodies business and thats with the AA batteries which should last longer than their smaller AAA cousins.

I use a five button Microsoft wheeled mouse with my new Microsoft keyboard and the difference in cursor and page response is startling, its almost as if the mouse is super sensitive.

This superb keyboard has all the right buttons including separate ones for email, internet, volume, even music downloads and to finish it off its by Microsoft so you know it will never let you down.

It may have old technology cable coming from the back of it but theres one thing you know for shure that because its having a constant electrical source through its veins the cursor on the screen provided by the mouse willnot become slugish.

To prove the point, whilst playing my Tiger Woods Golf Game with my wired mouse everything has become hyper sensitive compared to my Logitec wireless mouse.the game has become more of a challenge because the signal being sent through the mouse is that much stronger than before.

If you are looking for a basic quality sensibly priced keyboard from the daddy of manufacturers then this keyboard should be high on your list.

I have used many Microsoft keyboards, including the "Natural" curved models, and they have been fine, but this keyboard is junk. I managed to use it for approx. 2 minutes before a key stuck. Tried it again the next day, another key stuck. Too cheap to be worth returning, but my advice: DON'T BUY THIS KEYBOARD.

With it's small support legs extended, this keyboard is not raised to sufficient an angle. It still lies virtually flat to the desk.

The action on the key's is also very shallow. Pleasingly light, but there isn't a good level of feedback to tell me that the keys have indeed been pressed.

Perhaps, as Microsoft sell a range of "natural" ergonomic keyboards, they don't feel the need to make this basic model more comfortable to operate.

Such things are purely a matter of personal taste, but this keyboard isn't for me.

bought this thinking it was a USB keyboard (why shouldn't I have when it appeared in the top group when searching for "USB Keyboard"!). so, decent enough keyboard but no use at all. i could buy an adapter, but no idea if it will work with a cheap adapter or would need the more expensive active adapter. best option, buy another keyboard, but make sure it is usb this time!

Like some other reviewers, I had got fed up with a wireless keyboard (and even more so with a wireless mouse) where the batteries needed frequent changing. The reliability of having a wired link again is great, and the fact that it is PS/2 is fine by me - the "port" on the PC is there anyway, and it leaves my USB sockets for other things. For only £8.99, this keyboard is great. I find the keys nice and light and much quieter than the ones on my old wired keyboard. And unlike one or 2 other reviewers, I don't find them lacking responsiveness. The additional function keys (for opening up msn email, volume control/mute, favourites page, calculator etc) are also very handy. And it looks good - black is much preferable to "computer grey". It would be nice if the legs raised the back of it somewhat higher, but I fixed that with the use of some redundant mouse mats to add elevation.

All in all, a really good value-for-money buy which I would thoroughly recommend to others.

This item is of the usual standard expected of Microsoft products, ie good. But we did have a problem - the reason for the purchase was to use it in conjunction with a laptop which has Vista Home Premium installed, but this keyboard will not function with that pc and we have been unable to rectify the problem. We then tried the keyboard with a desktop pc currently configured with XP, which works fine in this set-up.
